# Alan Nguyen Interview ### Oct 1, 2020 **Course:** iOS **University:** Cal Poly SLO ### Personal Questions *Tell me about yourself.* - Goal is to own a home for his parents. Merge into tech industry with a specialization in UI/UX design in mobile apps. At first didn't feel tech was for him but now that he has been learning at his own pace he has been able to feel welcomed into tech again. *Why do you want to apply as a Tech Fellow?* - Always interested in coding. Always frustrating since it's been hard to learn. However, after meeting friends in software engineering, they recommended him to join codepath. He got really interested because of the sense of community and because he wants to help other students like him who are low income and want to get back into tech. *What skills do you have that would contribute as a Tech Fellow? Prior experiences?* - A lot of marketing/client outreach experience. Has participated in many marketing leadership competitions and made it finals. A lot of skills in research and finding resources to learn. Technical abilities he is still learning iOS *What does it take to build a good community in the classroom?* - Communication. Everyone learns at their own pace. Be able to ask questions comfortably. It's hard to achieve together as a team without communicating and planning. *What skills do you want to build/improve on? (technical/non-technical)* - Technical skillsets in coding and xcode. Be able to communicate technical concepts to students. Be able to slow down and communicate topics clearly. *How was the TF application process? Would you make any changes to improve it?* - A bit confusing. First part was clear but the optionals were not clear. *What would you improve in CodePath?* - n/a ### Live Demo Applicants should present their favorite tool that they used from the previous course that they've taken with.
