## TEMPLATES
**Question - How do you make your web application look great?**

| **APPROACH** | Remarks |
| -------- | -------- |
| Designing from scatch | Too time consuming and requires experience in HTML and CSS. |
| Use different snippets | This is fine as long as you can find different snippets that work together (not as easy as it sounds) |
| Use complete templates | **HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, HOWEVER, you need to make significant changes to the template.** |

**Bootstrap version**
The template you choose will affect your version of Bootstrap you use. You may most likely use Bootstrap 4 although Bootstrap 5 is the latest. This should not be an issue just keep it in mind.

**Checkout pages**
Ecommerce checkout templates usually include fields to enter credit card information. Your application will probably not include that functionality. You can keep the design (easy) or auto fill the fields via a functionality (challenging) or replace the design with your cart or something similar to a cart (recommended).

**Sidebars**
Sidebars are nice but non functional sidebars are pretty much useless. If you have a sidebar I highly encourage you to implement any kind of functionality. NOTE: Those fancy price sliders cannot be easily manipulated by beginners

## HOW TO USE THE TEMPLATE

| Cons | Possibility of not being rewarded or getting marks since you had little influence over the design |
| Recommended for | Beginners with little experience in programming |

| **MAIN APPROACH** | Use one main template with a combination of different snippets (4 or more) |
| -------- | -------- |
| Pros | More content to include in design chapter since many decisions would have been made on which templates you used |
| Cons | Not all snippets work together and it's time consuming and difficult to get the perfect snippets you need |
| Recommended for | All students should ideally be using this approach however it is understandable not everyone has the experience and time. |

## What do you mean make significant changes to template?

**Examples of insignificant changes**
Changing text such as title, footer information etc and doing nothing else.
Changing logo, homepage images and doing nothing else.

**Examples of significant changes**
Removing parts of the template you don't need or parts that are not relevant to what you are selling.
Using snippet of codes to completely change the design of the login page and register pages.
Implementing functionalities to the template. E.g. Make your search bar functional.

## Recap
You want to find a complete template.
It is ok if the template does not come with all the pages you need.
Use snippets from other sites to change the template or certain pages.

## Finding snippets for pages

| Sidebar | DIFFICULT | Either use the sidebar from your template or don't use any at all |
| Cart | Depends | Easy to find snippets, not all cart snippets are responsive |
| Checkout | Depends | Mix the cart snippet with another snippet or reuse the cart snippet and tweak the design. |
| Success / Order confirmed | | Most likely you will have to create your own design |
