# TLDR
**Kickstarting augmented reality (AR) exploration within the Nouns community with these two++ World AR experiences. If this pilot project successful, our team will continue to explore more AR applications in the future, creating experiences that can be used by community members of NounsDAO and amplifying the Nouns brand and its associated props projects. For this, we are requesting a budget of 3 ETH, with an additional 3 ETH to encourage the community to use and share the AR experience within the rounds.wtf channel**

**AR use cases are often highly specific, requiring creative solutions tailored to particular events and campaign within the Nouns community. Due this, instead making a big budget at this early proposal, we prefer to go for kickstarting budget and make a semi retroactive funding in the future when its proven works, then we will continue to the next development (web & apps) and gradually expanding the portfolio to include a diverse 15++ of AR experiences.**

# AR Introduction
### Understanding Augmented Reality (AR)
Augmented reality (AR) enhances our perception of the real world by overlaying digital object onto physical environments through devices like smartphones or head-mounted displays. Initially, AR simply added digital products into the physical realm. However, due to rapid advancements by tech giants such as Meta, Snapchat, Google, Apple, and Niantic, AR has evolved significantly. **Today, AR is not just about displaying digital content; it offers interactive experiences that seamlessly blend with the environment. This technology serves as a powerful design tool that can solve various problems,** providing innovative solutions and transforming how we interact with the world around us.
### Why Augmented Reality?:
- Unlike traditional media, where experiences are static and passive (watch only), AR content offers immersive and personalize experiences. every time user make / share content with World AR is always different experiences, ensure the freshness and keeping the content relevant.
- AR experiences simplify the process for community members to advocating nouns project. By providing easy-to use tools and interactive content, AR pushing individuals to actively promote the project in creative and cool ways.
- AR experiences is much more suitable for community-based project like nouns, because they tap into the power of the community. Unlike Web2 brands that push messages from the top down. Single-source marketing can feel impersonal and discouraging users from engaging and sharing. in other way, community-based AR can make more excitement, because users trust the project and naturally advocate for the brand and willing to share the AR experiences.
### The Rise of Social AR
Previously, AR Developers had to build standalone apps, investing significant time and resources, which limited AR's reach. Users had to install new apps or open external links, creating barriers to entry. **However, with AR integrated into social media platforms like Snapchat, Meta and Tikok, AR is now easily accessible and widely used.** This shift leverages existing platforms, reducing development costs and time, and allows users to access AR experiences seamlessly, increasing engagement and sharing.

# AR Concept 1 (World Tracking): Giant nouns surrounding the user.

Users will find themselves surrounded by towering Nouns emerging from a distance. Some of these giant Nouns will approach the user, while others will animate individually, perhaps dancing or engaging in playful antics. To convey a sense of scale and distance, we'll utilize sky segmentation ML, which will make the 3D models appear as towering giants in the distance.

# Distribution
### Platform
For these two experiences, we've selected **Snap AR** as our platform of choice. Snapchat's advanced technology and rich features make it an ideal environment for creating immersive AR content. They also supporting with link only experience (webAR), without downloading Snapchat
However, we're also **open to exploring other than social AR platforms** in future developments. Each platform offers unique features;
- **Google** plans to [integrate AR into Google Maps this year](https://developers.google.com/ar/geospatialcreator) (using Unity & Adobe Aero) we already apply for beta access, and hopefully can play around with it soon
- We can also explore opportunities with platforms like [Niantic](https://www.8thwall.com/), which supports geolocation features, ideal for experiences like scavenger hunts, akin to Pokémon GO.
### Distribution across community
The success of this AR experience also relies on community participation. To ensure widespread accessibility among all community members, our strategy is creating an **announcement channel within our Discord** server. We will then collaborate with other subDAOs and other projects **to have this channel featured and followed,** establishing dedicated sections for AR updates. With the support of other project admins and leads, we aim to foster engagement and participation across the community.
# Kickstarting the Experience
AR has immense potential for **spreading virality** and making a lasting impression. However, to kickstart a chain reaction and amplify the spread of these experiences, **we propose initiating a small contest within the rounds.wtf (Farcaster)**. Participants will be incentivized to share their experiences through the rounds channel or X. This rounds session will be easy to participate in, allowing non-technical persons to also join. With this low entry barrier, we expect more participants to join and engage to share their AR experiences.
- ***The incentive for the winners with pool of 1,5 ETH x 2 rounds, totaling 3 ETH for 2 rounds.***
# What's next? (example case study, what we can achieve with AR)
Our plan is to continuously develop and explore cutting-edge AR experiences, and integrating Nouns into our creations. We believe AR can now serve as more than just **a marketing gimmick, with rapid advancements from major tech companies, AR now can be utilized as a design tool that enhances and supports proliferating nouns ecosystem**
If this proposal is approved, **we will persist in exploring AR applications using a retroactive funding model**. which means we complete some projects first and then request funding from the DAO afterwards. This approach allows us to demonstrate tangible results and ensures that funds are well-allocated based on proven success and impact. As an estimate, the budget **for each AR experience will range from 1 ETH to 4 ETH (4,000 - 16,000 USD((on 01/06/2024)) depends of its complexity.**

John Hamon and his team successfully launched a remarkable campaign, creating a dynamic collaboration between Nouns and John Hamon as an artist.
**Here's how augmented reality can further enhance this project with AR:**
Community members can also spread John Hamon's poster in their own environments or landmarks and share it on social media only using phone. Users can point their cameras at a wall or the ground, **tap the screen and the John Hamon poster, complete with randomized Noggle colors will appear, record it, and have the video on any socials**. This interactive AR feature allows for widespread and engaging promotion, with additional *rounds.wtf* allocation, the reach will be massive.

This full-body tracking technology can be utilized in numerous ways, from just goofing around, enriching your content, to dancing tools (example : for [Nouns Breaker](https://x.com/nounsbreakers)) and many more, **user can decide that their own body will be appears or hidden in this experiences**, using Machine Learning feature that allow 'erase' user.
Great thing about publishing AR is sometime we just amazed how user creatively exploring this experience with their own unique ideas. But most importantly, it definitely can be leveraged to promote the documentary of *Shark Pickle and Cone* itself, enhancing engagement and curiousity about nounsDAO in general.

### Developing 3D Printed AR try-on fashion from [Props 26](https://nouns.wtf/vote/26)
3D Printed Fashion collection from Props 26, has captured considerable attention in the fashion, tech, and design sectors for its innovative and stylish designs.
AR try-on fashion presents an opportunity to enhance this project further. While the 3D printed garment / may be expensive to produce and difficult to fit, **AR fashion allows users to virtually try on these designs using just a camera or a large screen**. This accessibility means that anyone from around the world can now experience the 3D printed fashion, potentially sharing their interactions on social media platforms.

### Geospatial / Geolocation / Location based AR
Geolocation AR leverages the user's geographic location to deliver contextually relevant experiences. By combining geographical data with environment recognition, it can accurately track and create immersive experiences that are seamlessly integrated with the user's surroundings.

**SnapAR offers ready-to-use template locations at global landmarks** like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, and also allows us to create custom locations through 3D scanning. **Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go, has extensive area data ideal for scavenger hunts**. Additionally, Google plans to integrate AR experiences with **Google Maps this year**, with pilot projects expected to be available in Singapore and Paris.
With this type of AR experience, we can offer location-based interactions for our community. For example, we could create a **"Noggles Spreading Frenzy"** or **"Gigantic Noggles"** at the Eiffel Tower when paris blockchain week, **or making more immersive experience on Mount Liu Pian**, **Organize a scavenger hunt** using Niantic's platform data, or decorate various buildings with Nouns-themed elements, enhancing both engagement and visibility.

## Other Idea
There are numerous features and use cases for augmented reality that can't all be detailed here, from animating cover or artworks, making **playable digital Kendama** using physics-simulation and hand tracker, making simple platform jumping **game like Intro of *Rise of Blus*** or simply making **storytelling scene about nouns builder doing vote** ---**the possibilities are endless.** We are eager to explore these opportunities with Nouns and are open to collaboration with other projects to push the boundaries of what we can achieve together.
This proposal will serve as a kickoff for utilizing AR within the Nouns, setting the stage for a series of innovative and engaging experiences. This initial effort will pave the way for future developments.
## Question and Answer:
**Q: Whats the goal of this project?**
A: On the short term (this proposal), we aim to create 2++ AR experiences, then allowing community to use AR in their own environments and share their experiences through 2 rounds.wtf sessions on Farcaster or X. This exploration has several goals:
- Familiarize the community with using AR and its worklflow
- Make a buzz on farcaster / social media about our new toys and get incentive with low barrier entry on Farcaster (everyone can join without skill).
- Have a proof of concept to determine if this project is successful. The results data will guide the decision on the project's next step.
On the long term, **we aim to be a studio projects that supports other projects** with our expertise in AR and MR (*Mixed Reality*), we also want to continue to research about this evolving medium and at the same time creating state-of-the-art tools that can be used by the Nouns community to proliferate Nouns.
**Q: Will you only using a *3D nouns*? and will you assist us in using our own community (other project) assets?**
A: Actually we have our own 3D artist, but *3D nouns* is good intepretation from Nouns' pixel art from 2D to 3D voxel. its lightweight and very small amounts of vertex, it allow us to create quick, accurate works for fast prototype. But as a member of community we also open possibility to use other 3D assets(Nounish friends, Nounies etc.) and our own custom creations. **We open to support and collaborate with other projects to help proliferate Nouns**. We are flexible if you request the similar experience with different assets.
**Q: Will you use influencers to promote this ?**.
A: No. This time we rely on community participation boosted through rounds.wtf. However, if someone wants to involve influencers, these AR experiences will always be available for that purpose.
