The motivation for AR is it's multimodal user interface. (Pavlovic et al., 1997; Reeves et al., 2004). By presenting information in the world, AR provides an interaction closer to natural human-human communication. Visual overlay, stereo sound, tactile feedback gloves, and the physical world provides multiple sources of knowledge.
