# Trident Honda holds launch event for new Honda Civic e:HEV
> Saturday, 19th September 2022
The sun was shining for the launch of the new Honda Civic e:HEV.
The new Civic sat in the centre of Trident Honda's showroom in Ottershaw, hidden beneath a red cover, with only a tantalising glimpse of its blue paintwork visible.
Breakfast pastries and coffee had been provided, but these were being ignored as customers waited for the unveiling. At last, Mark Hannay, Business Manager of Trident Honda, began his presentation.
Now in its 50th year, more than 27.5 million Civics have been sold in 170 countries, since the model was first launched in 1972. The 11th generation Civic marks a major milestone for Honda in Europe, as it completes Honda's 'Electric Vision' commitment to electrify all mainstream models by 2022.
The new Civic features the most advanced iteration of the brand's multiple award winning e:HEV full-hybrid powertrain system as standard, offering class-leading dynamics and performance with impressive economy and efficiency.
The cover finally removed, the sun gleamed off its stunning Crystal Blue bodywork.
Mark walked around the car pointing out features, such as the wiper-mounted washer jets to reduce water consumption by 40%, the lightweight aluminium bonnet and resin boot. Mark explains that all models benefit from Honda SENSING as standard, Honda's advanced safety systems.
The styling of the new model has been softened a little, compared to the previous model. The bonnet extends further forward, with a honeycomb-style grille below it. Forward visibility has been improved, by increasing the curve of the front windscreen and moving the pillars backwards. At the rear, the overriding impression is that of the fastback-style sloping hatchback.
Inside, the honeycomb theme continues across the width of the dashboard. The quality of the interior has been noticeably improved, with high quality components used throughout. This was the Advance model, which Mark explains has the premium 12-speaker BOSE audio system, but all models benefit from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
Whilst this latest version of Honda's hybrid powertrain should comfortably deliver in excess of 55mpg, the effect on driving is simply stunning, with the electric motors providing that instant, low-end torque to deliver effortless performance.
Dubbed the Driver's Hybrid, the new Civic promises to be a very special car indeed.
