**Material from Interweave:**
Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
*Equality is giving everyone the same pair of shoes.
Equity is giving everyone a pair of shoes that fits.*
**Equity= Fairness and justice.**
It is about taking rationale and logical decision. It is more Need based approach. Equity is subjective. It differs from situation to situation and from person to person. Equity respects individual differences and diversity. It identifies the differences and tries to reduce the gap between the groups or race.
**Equality= Sameness.**
It is mainly about treating everyone equally irrespective of being rationale or not. In equality approach, people are treated equally but may be unfairly. Equality does not focus on social and racial justice. Rather, it creates systemic barrier for social inclusion and social security. Equality can be achieved through equity.
Conclusion: Equality is the end result that we all seek to achieve. But, to get there, we must first ensure equity. Equity ensures that those people who are behind (socially, economically, politically, geographically etc.) others get a little bit of extra support and push so that they can reach to their fullest potential and stand on an equal ground with everyone.
Therefore, although equity and equality are meaningfully different to each other, they are also deeply inter-related with each other.
**Design Brief:**
*Create a version of the classic 3 panel illustration of the concept of equity.*

Design approach:
Thought of using the visual of toys to depict this rather than the cartoons that had been done in all possible variations by now.

Had created this for another project in the past, but we had decided to go with a different approach.

So taking this forward, I worked on the characters, making them differ only in height..

This was built in blender, using some basic materials and lighting to achieve the look of the wooden toys, in a setting that had a warmth to it.

Through a series of iterations we worked on color and gender variations and eventually even included a wheelchair.
