This is my Life, and I'm Sticking to It.

After being awake for more than 48 hours, everyone fell asleep when their heads hit the pillow.

Except for me.

I had a jarring headache from being overtired, and my eyes burned from having kept them open for so long. My head throbbed when finally settled down in the dark. I wanted to rip my eyes out.

However, melatonin was the winner and I was never up until 8:00 the following day.

Two children were in one hotel with Grady, and two kids were staying in a hotel with me. After Grady left for work, breakfast was done and my children and I set off to explore a small portion of Sydney.

Sydney Harbor is unique. Some places have jagged cliffs while others are peaceful and have sandy beaches. Others boast a modern skyline.

Uncertain of where we were going, and not knowing how we would feel or how energetic we would be for our first day exploring, we decided to begin with a small museum detailing the British discovery of Australia and its initial use for prisoners.

History, Geography, Social Studies: Check.
Every Little Helps

Micah was determined to solve a puzzle at the museum. After that we walked over Sydney Harbor Bridge. This iconic bridge is the tallest steel arch bridge and contains only straight pieces of steel... even although the bridge is a huge arch.

A side note: Micah is frustrated he can't duplicate the bridge in Minecraft. Architecture does indeed have mathematical components.

After crossing the Bridge, we explored Luna Park, mostly just for a chance to sit down, sip an iced drink and enjoy Ice cream on the water.

Australia was in the final days of summer and also the beginning of autumn when we visited. We felt a steady breeze, but with temps in the mid-80's it was quite warm.

We took a ferry from Luna Park, crossed the harbor, and walked three blocks back to our hotel.

After seven hours of sightseeing I imposed "quiet time" in the hotel. The kids wrote in journals or played video games and I shut my eyes. Grady came into the room at 5:30, emptied his laptop bag, and was going to dinner.

And, even at 8:15, we were done for the day. It took us a while to adjust to the 15 hour difference in time.

After the first day, everyone had a one-word description of Sydney fantastic, enjoyable easy to move around beautiful, exciting, and friendly. And we smiled knowing we'd have two more weeks in the city to enjoy and explore!
