## opensuse microOS
With special guest star Richard Brown.
(These are just notes, feel free to add/edit, move stuff, anything you think would be good to talk about)
Vibe:
- "Comedians in Cars getting coffee but for linux".
- Two people just having a conversation about something they're passionate about.
- A tour of the OS with chitchat.
- Playful atmosphere of creativity and play, show people the effort it takes to make something good, aka the opposite of a reddit discussion.
- Let's shoot for 20 minutes.
- "I keep meaning to do a microOS video and people keep asking but I have nothing to talk about because it's been working for over a year without issue on my thinkpad, lol."
I can't capture my openSUSE laptop so I'll do an install ahead of time in a VM and then we'll start at the first user login:
- The Why
- I'll link to previous videos you've done, this will be a more high level discussion, why you felt you needed to make this.
- How it's going, how's my laptop been doing?
- How's it been for you day to day over the past year?
- Got a rollback story?
- The Who
- How long you been making distros?
- What led you here to this conclusion?
- Part of the reason I want to start interviewing folks is so that we can explain how we got here.
- First user intro
- Installs firefox on first load. Design decisions around this?
- Show gnome-software
- Quick desktop tour (hey this looks normal!)
- What's the toolbox setup look like?
- What's the day to day usage look like? How do you use your PC every day?
- System updates and upgrades
- How do updates and upgrades work? Timers, etc.
- A quick tour of t-u
- How'd you lay out the filesystem, let's talk snapshots and stuff
btrfs snapshots
firefox
unfiltered flathub
system updates / flatpak updates
transactional-update pkg in
no release numbers, rolling
- How's this built?
- Describe flow from upstream -> factory -> microOS
- How's this different from tumbleweed?
- Show me some CI/CD bling. (Got a url?)
- What's your day to day work look like?
- Any interesting or annoying thing you've had to automate?
- How do you determine what's in the default install?
- ALP is too early to tell so let's just mention it but that'll be a focus for another time.
- Coloring outside the lines
- Let's show some t-u thing for an odd piece of software or something
- For developers
- Show podman standing up a thing (I'll snag some example yamls)
- What's my k8s story look like? k3s, minikube, kind?
- Don't want to spend too much time in these weeds but just enough for people to say "oh ok I can totally use this at work"
- What's left to do?
- Top three things that annoy you the most right now
- Top three things that you no longer have to give a shit about. :D
- Where can we contribute? See existing bug reports, what's that workflow look like?
- Changelog of all the goodies coming?
