# Meeting with Elaine

## Clarifying our Project
* Our main project goal is to explore the POSSIBILITY of using Machine learning/human pose estimation in Sign Language RECOGNITION.
* We have continuously reminded ourselves when developing for this project that our Proof-of-Concept system (PoC) is to recognize one isolated (single) continuous sign at a given time.
* Understand the problems when in comes to deploying a real world application.
* Hence, we are very careful about distinguishing between "Recognition" and "Translation".
* We chose the theme of Emergencies as:
* To have a dedicated theme of signs to choose from.
* Having this theme, can create most "value" in our scenario from having the possibility of using it in emergencies.
* To this end, we are still fully aware that no machine can ever replace an Auslan human interpreter.
* We did not include this in our Road to Endeavour video as the whole idea was to share our journey for this capstone project and to generate "interest". We did not in anyway make a claim that we were solving the Auslan communities - rather only presented a possible "scenario" where our application may be of value.
* We understand & should have flagged in the video that this is only an exploration project - not a commercial product.
* As "Phoenix" pointed out we did not have co-production with the Auslan community - this is not entirely true as we did reach out to them asking for help initially when developing our system, We did not get much response from them initially but the fault is on us for not persevering enough.

## Thoughts
* We would like to stress that we do not feel threathened by the allegations made in the comment in cricising our project - we believe we have considered all points stated in our project context.
* We are only aware of the "possibility" of our names being called out in public - potentially affecting our future careers.
* We understand that this is an avoidable situation.
