# Lean Startup
[The Lean Startup | Eric Ries | Talks at Google](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEvKo90qBns)
- Entrepreneurship is Management
- Validated Learning
- Innovation Accounting
"The customer is the most important part of the production line." - Deming
"If you don't know who your customer is, and you don't know what quality means."
## Statrup
A startup is a **human institution** designed to **deliver a new product or service** under conditions of **extreme uncertainty**.
- Entrepreneur is a career
- Startup is an experiment
- Is a science, we want to start a scientific experiment to stop wasting people's time.
## The Pivot
Pivot: **Change directions but stay grounded in what we've learned.**
"If we can reduce the time between pivots, we can increase our odds of success before we run out of money."
## Validated Learning

A Failure: "Customers did not wanna use our product to connect with their existing friends. They wanted to use it to make new friends."
A retrospective: "If my goal of the last six months was to learn this important thing about customers, why did it take six months?"
We call it "validated learning" cause we have to back up that learning **quantitatively**.
## Minimum Viable Product

## Innovation Accounting
The three learning milestones
1. Establish the baseline
- Build a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
- Measure how customers behave right now
2. Turn the engine
- Experiment to see if we can improve metrics from the baseline towards the ideal.
3. Pivot or presevere
- When experiments reach diminishing returns, it's time to pivot.
