# Article: Why Is Our Vision Important
Why should companies find the elements of the vision appealing?
[why should companies value openness & interoperability]
[and compassion?]
[INTEROPABILITY: there are clear economic advantages for creating walled gardens. Creating barriers of entry for others & creating barriers of exit. Because you're not the first-mover. There are other people with market share already. So, second-tier and want to be able to compete with dominant players. BUT OTHER REASONS: Customers may demand it; It can reduce costs (splitting costs).
[open/ineroperable/secure/compassionate] There's a weird venn diagram. We have learned from last 40 years the risks of keeping the person at the heart of it at center (user-centric, but we're not using that word). If your company has values that says WE ARE SERVING PEOPLE (single people or group), then you're in a different modality. So if you're compassionate, it offers additional motivation.
[SECURITY: reduces risks, legal risks, reputation risks]
