# DNA Infuser ## The Problem Genetics needs some more content as a job. The machines in genetics ended up being a bit boring and samey between rounds, so I wanted some specific goals for giving a side-task to genetics ### Cannot be stationary Simple as. The main job doesn't get geneticists interacting with other station members enough. ### Many options for experimentation As it's not a main job, we don't necessarily have to tie it to a linear progression. We can simply enable a lot of options and see what people end up with. Because it should be something people experiment a lot with, it needs to have obscurity. That means it needs to have bonuses that are not immediately comparable with other options in the side-task. Ideally, you're coming nowhere close to trying everything in a round's time! ### Beneficial to others as well as the geneticist It needs to be something that can be offered to other people. Gene powers can get hogged sometimes as they are strict benefits, but I've already laid out that they should not be easy to compare with each other. tl;dr there should be some combinations that are good for specific people, maybe related to antagonism or jobs or the state of the station ## The Solution My pr with all the features is here. https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/71351 ## How the Solution Fixes the Problem ### Gets you moving around The task is collecting a set amount of bodies of a mob to pass a threshold and get a special bonus, or collecting a smorgasbord of good enough organs and existing as a chimera. This should mean that the geneticist is either actively doing the task by killing mobs on downtime or passively doing his main job, recieving corpses when someone else wants it. Nice! ### Is experimental I have kept the sprite cost low to adding more sets of organs, keeping a lot of tells to matrix changes, eye color changes, and examine descriptions (some hidable). This should let many people expand the system. I considered a cost to activating the machine to limit the amount of things you can try in a round, but I don't want to stifle creativity and encourage a meta. ### Is beneficial to all This system seems so easy to add something beneficial more to others than the geneticist itself. The rat mutation might be best for an assistant as-is, but I'll also ship a space fish, to become the absolute best at space exploration, but at a great cost.
