So last night I decided I was going to try using Safari/Webkit DevTools. I asked myself: What is Firefox Developer Edition/Chrome DevTools giving me that Safari DevTools isn't? I thought I'd try it out for a couple of weeks... I also asked myself the same thing about iTerm2, so I also decided to try out the basic macOS Terminal application. ![Pasted Graphic](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SJ0n3vY4A.jpg) But of course I'm a stickler for UI consistency. It took a while for me to get VSCode to look like Webkit DevTools, but I have to say **I really like it**! # Updates ## August 5, 2024 iTerm is back as my Terminal. Why: Panes. I just didn't like how Terminal.app did panes, and I had a few cases where I wanted to use panes. E.g. I was using a command to transcribe some audio to text using `whisper` but I also needed to watch `htop` because it was really eating at my CPU. I needed a Pane... ### Native unless I have a need So my philosophy on this has been to ask myself if a native macOS app provides what I need. As soon as I need something I cannot get a native app to provide me, I'll move on to alternatives. Like Raycast, it turned out I only used 3% of Raycast—Spotlight has been just fine since I switched. ## Jul 15, 2024 ### Ditched Raycast I've also ditched [Raycast](http://raycast.com). I, again, asked myself if I really use it. I don't think I do. I could, sure, but in reality I only use about 10% of it. So I disabled it (still going to use the AI features I paid for). Installed a snippet and clipboard history tool, enabled Spotlight, and have moved on. ## Jun 11, 2024 So far I am still using the baked-in macOS Terminal and Webkit. ### Terminal I have had a few times where it acted wonky, but I always load up what I'm doing in iTerm and it almost _always_ turned out it also happened in iTerm. #### Things that I have had to settle on though - iTerm let's you remap right ⌘ to CTRL, I can't do that in Terminal, that's fine with me, just remaped `alt-s` in `micro` and called it a day - No panes (but panes are a pain ;) anyway), fine I will use tabs But so far, that's it... still waiting for a gotcha. ## Jun 3, 2024 I have also been moving all my todos (yes, even for work) to Reminders and using Notes more... I'm really enjoying the feeling of _less_... Less apps, less organizing!
