So the hype is real. Or I should say almost real! Set in 1900, this enthralling blend of mythology and fiction follows Shiva, who, along with his tribe, Guna, is relocated to the city of Meluha,an epitome of ancient architecture where he is hailed as the Neelkanth, the prophesied protector. Shiva’s initial wonder turns to intrigue when he rescues Princess Sati from an ominous attack by a hooded naga—though questions arise about whether it was truly an attack or something more insidious. As Shiva immerses himself in the culture and the fraught relations between the Suryavanshis and Chandravanshis, he encounters escalating terrorist attacks from the nagas, led by the elusive hooded figure. The attacks leads to a tragic event where Sati is injured by a fire arrow. Shiva's swift intervention saves her life, and she gradually succumbs to his affection, leading to a deepening romantic bond. However, their happiness is shattered by another devastating attack on Mount Mandar, the source of the sacred somras, which results in the death of Shiva’s trusted ally, Brahaspati. Driven by a desire for retribution, Meluha declares war on Swadweep, the realm of the Chandravanshis. The ensuing conflict sees a swift and decisive victory for the Meluhans. Despite an easy victory Shiva is left questioning his choices. How can Neelkanth align with the Suryavanshis? Is Shiva truly serving justice, or has he been misled into a war against misunderstood people? The lines between good and evil blur as he struggles with his identity and purpose. The shadowy hooded figure continues to loom near Sati, hinting at deeper secrets. Each revelation brings Shiva closer to understanding his true purpose and the intricacies of his fate. Personally I loved the book. The whole story is very captivating and fast paced. A rich character development, creating a world that feels alive and immersive. Never had a dull moment through out the book. The pacing is expertly managed, blending action and introspection seamlessly, making it hard to put down.
