Past award winners To celebrate the Astro community award winners, past and present, we're contacting everyone who ever won an award... and that includes you! We're planning to put together a video about community at Astro, and the importance of recognizing our contributors. We would love a message, clip, blurb from you about whatever you feel compelled to share so we can incorporate it! Format: - written message - audio recording - video clip - interpretive dance??? - ... anything we can insert into a video! Quality: You can keep it casual! Dictate something into your phone, film yourself with your laptop cam. Scrawl a message in crayon. It's fine! Length: 30 seconds - 3 minutes, maybe? (Like, probably not 10 min. But don't worry, Sarah has lots of experience editing people down... ) Content: Honestly, whatever this prompt makes you think of is probably great! But if you need some ideas to get you started... - What winning the award meant to you. (How did it make you feel? Did the money make a difference to you? Did you use it for anything in particular that feels relevant to share like computer equipment.. or maybe you re-donated it to support another open-source project!) - What it felt like to be a part of the Astro community - What made you start contributing (to such a level that you were recognized) - Who in particular was a part of your journey? Encouraged you? Introduced you to the community? Got you hooked? - (If we do say so ourselves...) How Astro does community "right" in your mind. - What lessons you learned about community, open-source, working with others through contributing to Astro.. and maybe what you've carried on into other projects, orgs, or areas of your life - WHAT YOU DID THAT YOU WERE RECOGNIZED FOR! Don't be shy to talk about the actual thing/way you contributed! Don't think of it as "bragging" if that makes you uncomfortable -- think of it as demonstrating to others what THEY could do that is helpful and valuable to the project/community! People really do want to know how to help, and specifically what they can do. Seeing what others have done is a great model for others. Due Date: YES/NO: Please respond ASAP with a simple YES OR NO saying whether you'd like to contribute something. This will help us plan. Like, you're reading this message RIGHT NOW and probably know if you *want* to do something. So, just hit reply and say so. ACTUAL CONTENT: TUES FEB 27 or sooner, if possible. Don't leave it to the last minute if it's easy to do earlier! Enough people will leave it to the end... we can start processing submissions first, rather than deal with everything at once. (If you absolutely need more time, please let us know in advance if you can, and we will still try to accommodate you.) Once again, we want to thank you for being such a valuable member of the Astro community. Whether you haven't been around in a while, or jumped in and never left, at some point you made an impact. We want the rest of the world to know about it, and be inspired by you to contribute to something, too!
