This is a overview/agenda for the upcoming July 6, 2023 Support Squad meeting

## Updates
- All support mods have joined the webtoo.ls Mastadon
- `239` squad members as of July 3, 2023! (about `100`/month)
- `starlight` and `i18n` tags are a success, they are being used more than the tags they replaced
- Mandarjin has been working on improving the tag insights bot with tag combintions
- How should the tag insights be formatted?
- New `astro info` command

## Support Squad Role

**Problem**:

- About 2 months ago all members of the `@support-squad` role were removed and the role was opened back up for anyone to join. The goal of this change was to:
- Get new members, previously the role had been closed for months with no new members
- Lower the barrier of entry for getting the role and helping others
- Avoid the previous mistake of role overpopulation by rewording the onboarding message to be more clear about the role
- Use a bot to filter out inactive squad members
- 2 months after this change the role is becoming overpopulated again and only a very small percentage of squad members are active. Some of the current problems with the role include:
- Currently you can choose to recieve the role before you even enter the server, most people are choosing the role when entering but do not actively particpate in the Discord
- Even with the update to the onboarding message people are mistaking the role for asking questions (vs actively helping answer questions)
- Many new server members who do actively participate in helping others are not choosing the role
- Using a bot to filter out inactive members has a lot of problems associated with it, is more complicated, and less effective than handpicking the active helpers community.

**Proposed Solutions**:

- Keep the `@support-squad` role open and turn `@support-mod` into the invite only role for squad members who are more active than others.
- Best of both worlds:
- The `@support-squad` role can stay open for anyone to join and identify as a helper
- `@support-mod` becomes a role for only the most active squad members (Mandar1jn, Lloyd, etc)
- Turn `#support-squad` into a more private channel for only `@support-mods`?
- Rename `@support-mod`?

- Close the `@support-squad` role (again), but address some the problems when closing the role previously:
- There was no defined "pathway" for becoming a squad member. There needs be a clear definition about what the requirements are for becoming a squad member (EX: you have to answer/help with at least 3 questions)
- Who assigns the`@support-squad` role?`@support-mod` cannot assign roles and previously there was no process for nominating anyone (or clear requirements) so almost no one recieved the role while it was closed

- Brainstorm! All ideas are welcome!

## Kapa AI

- Only a small percentage of questions in `#support-ai` are getting upvoted/downvoted
- Encourage squad members to upvote/downvote Kappa AI's answers to collect better data
- Encourage squad members to correct Kappa's answers or help answer questions when Kappa can't
