Bases are made of 300 series stainless steel solid cast. Deep grooved ball bearings are manufactured of Type 420C stainless steel. They are doubly insulated, permanently lubricated with USDA-approved grease, and almost maintenance-free. Shields are composed of Type 304 stainless steel and keep out dirt.

There are many different types of bearings, including ball and roller bearings, linear bearings, and mounted versions that may use either rolling element bearings or plain bearings.
