# FIS-LIVE@: Nightrace Schladming Alpine Ski World Cup 2023 Live On The Nightrace - FIS Night Slalom for men Nightrace Schladming Alpine Ski World Cup 2023 will be held in the World Cup venue for the 26th time on January 24th 2023! Once a year Schladming becomes the venue for what is probably the most spectacular ski race in the World Cup winter. With this excitement, this feeling and these swings, it is impossible to imagine the World Cup without THE Nightrace.

Watch FIS World Cup Alpine Skiing Schladming 2023 Live

Even though the Planai Stadium, known as the "witches' cauldron", is a little quieter this year, you can practically hear the usual cheers when the first athlete rushes out of the start house onto the floodlit piste. Here, skiers, service team and ski fans alike turn night into day - not to be missed! It was supposed to be a World Cup season with numerous innovations, but it was marked by cancellations right from the start. The big new speed opening on the glacier in Zermatt already had to be cancelled in the fall due to a lack of snow. The same fate overtook the parallel races planned for November in Lech-Zürs and the men's races at the end of January in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. When there was enough snow, the weather conditions were often bad. Poor visibility, wind or fresh snow caused some cancellations in Sölden, Lake Louise, Beaver Creek, Zagreb and also Gröden. For the FIS as the world federation, the search for alternative dates already began at the start of the winter in order to be able to make up as many races as possible. The result was numerous program changes: On the one hand in the area of the disciplines held, but also with additional race days. For example, Schladming and Kronplatz, where only a Tuesday race was planned, were given a second event on Wednesday. Cortina d'Ampezzo will host an additional men's weekend in addition to the planned women's World Cup. This season continues to be marked by the war in Ukraine. The FIS has banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in all disciplines and sports for the entire winter of 2022/2023. There will also be no World Cups there until further notice. The highlight of the season will certainly be the Alpine World Ski Championships, scheduled for February 6-19, 2023, in Courchevel and Méribel, France. The season finale with the awarding of the crystal globes is then planned - as already in 2019 - in Soldeu in Andorra.
