# business card how to

1. open card template in ai.

2. in a new layer, drag the symbol "blank card" onto the artboard.

3. edit text within the bounds of the card symbol.
a. you can even use the "align by selection" tool. select both the card and the text, and center or move the text according where you want it to be.

4. once your card is to your liking, group the content with the card symbol outline. once grouped, select "save as new symbol".

5. name your new symbol and copy and paste 7 more onto your artboard.

6. zoom in and line up each symbol to a guide. it should snap to the grid, but you will know for sure when you see the blue path (the guide) and green line (the symbol) merge.

a. to make this easier, go into preferences --> smart guides, and change the snapping tolerance to 10 points.

7. once all card symbols are snapped to their guide, select all of the cards and press "break link". this will allow each card to be edited indiviudally if you want each card to be slightly different. ungroup the content of the card to edit each text box.

8. edit your cards to your liking. i used a learning lab color palette i had previously made and that should be available in the learning lab studio library.

9. you're done! print using the business card paper
