# Introduction
Antares 30XX is a fork of SS14 focused on simplicity, roleplay, and robust game design. It's developed, designed and maintained solely by me (mirrorcult).
Antares' goal is to reap the benefits of starting fresh on a new engine without the extreme bloat of SS13. By building from the ground up with solid design principles in mind, a more focused and thematically consistent experience can be crafted.
With regards to SS13, Antares is most directly inspired (in order of relative amount) by Shiptest, IS12 Reborn, CEV-Eris, Orbital Station 13, and Goonstation.
With regards to science-fiction-and-themes-in-general-stuff, Antares is most inspired by the works of Ursula K. Le Guin, William Gibson, J.G. Ballard, Neal Stephenson, and the CCRU.

Antares is a roleplay server, meaning that LRP behavior like netspeak, talking about OOC events, etc are not allowed. This does not mean you need to `*inhales`, `*sits down` or do rote paperwork. Antares focuses on roleplay driven by design rather than forced by admins, but there obviously needs to be some base standard enforced.
The main gamemode of Antares is '**Expedition**', which you can read about on other pages.
## Lore
Antares is, as the name implies, set in the 31st century, though lore-wise there is a focus on being player-driven rather than forcing everyone to read pages of lore. That said, there is a basic setting and themes that should generally be adhered to.
- There are alien species. Most aren't humanoid, but some are. Most people have worked with aliens in some capacity. Humans aren't the dominant species in many parts of deep space.
- Life has spread throughout the galaxy, and exists mostly in clustered areas. A small area around Earth is ruled by an interplanetary government, but most pockets of life are controlled entirely by extraplanetary corporations or extrasolar sapient life.
- Superintelligent life, silicon or otherwise, is rumored to exist, but no one has direct confirmation.
- A section of deep space exists, near the Antares fleet, where no life has ever been sensed and no ship has ever returned from. There exist multiple colloquialisms for this area, but none have stuck.
- The advent of space colonization has led to multiple attempts to create new modes of living by extremist political and religious organizations. Have any truly succeeded? Will any try to subvert the Antares fleet?
