### Preface/Epilog to our auction

Stell Dir vor Du schlenderst von Klubhaus zu Klubhaus, um einen Ort zu finden, an dem Du Deine Kräfte messen kannst. Einen Ort, wo Deine Mühen sich lohnen und Du nicht bloß wieder ausgenutzt wirst, Dich für ein paar Merits zu quälen. Und dann stolperst Du unverhofft in eine grüne, blühende, freundliche Oase, in der Milch und Honig fließen und betörende Musik Dich dazu verleitet, all Deine Gildenkraft abzuladen, um einen Moment verweilen zu dürfen.

Doch Du bist alamiert, nicht zu verweilen, denn der Honig fließt üppig und die Milch ist warm. Anderswo wäre erst ein Vermögen von Dir verlangt worden, nur um einen Blick in diese Oase erhaschen zu können. Hier jedoch stand die Tür weit offen, wie an den vielen anderen Klubhäusern, die Du zuvor schon gesehen hattest. Doch dieser Ort hier war nicht leer und verlassen. Er zeigte keine Spuren von Kampf und Verrohung. Ganz offenbar waren keine wilden Horden hier durchgezogen, oder einzelnde Skrupellose, die nur abgewetzte Wände und versiegende Quellen hinterlassen hatten. Hier warst Du nicht an einem Ort, der zu einem Kampf einlud, und nur ein paar Merits als Belohnung versprach.

Du bist in etwas hineingestolpert, das Du nicht erwartet hattest. Hier kamen offenbar Menschen zusammen, die wussten, das Leben zu genießen. Doch warum in aller Welt war die Tür nicht verschlossen? Wie konnte es sein, dass solch Gastfreundschaft vor Dir ausgebreitet lag und niemand an der Tür stand, diesen Reichtum zu schützen?

Hattest Du Glück gehabt, dass vor Dir jemand vergessen hatte, die Tür zu verschließen? War der Eingang offen, weil der gewaltige Wächter in einen Hinterhalt gelockt worden war? Musstest Du mit üblen Schergen rechnen, die gerade dabei waren, die Schatzkammer zu plündern, um Dich im nächsten Augenblick hier allein vorzufinden, und Zeuge ihres Verbrechens zu werden?

Du selbst denkst, wenn Dich niemand sieht, wirst Du nun eilig Deine Vorräte mit Milch und Honig füllen können, und bald wieder zu verschwinden, bevor Dir jemand den Preis nennt, den dieser Reichtum kostet?

Als Du zugreifst, um von den Gaben zu kosten, ist plötzlich alles wie erwartet. Die Milch duftet köstlich und der Honig ist golden und cremig. Du staunst noch immer und kannst es nicht glauben.

Noch bevor Du Deine Lippen mit den Köstlichkeiten benetzt, spürst Du einen Drang, Dich zu setzen. Es Dir gemütlich zu machen.

Großzügige Sessel laden Dich dazu ein. Kostbares Geschirr steht bereit. Auf den wenigen flachen Tischen stehen leuchtende Kerzen. Ist das hier denn wirklich ein Klubhaus? Bist Du womöglich in eine Taverne geraten? Hatte sie soeben geöffnet und war der Gastwirt im Nebenraum, nur um sogleich zurückzukehren, Dich zu begrüßen? Sei es gestattet, Dich selbst zu bedienen oder geboten auf jemanden zu warten? Auf eine reizende Bedienung, die die Kerzen entfacht, die Kissen aufgeklopft und diesen lieblichen Duft hier verbreitet hatte?

Doch niemand kam.

Auch war noch immer kein Wächter an der Tür, der offenbar versäumt hatte, Deinen Einlass zu prüfen. Was ist dies hier für ein wundersamer Ort?
