# Team BLISS retro - 9 May 2023
## Exercise 1: Showing Up
Add a X to indicate how you are at today's retrospective.
| Are you a... | |
|:-------------|:--:|
| Explorer (Eager to dive in and research what did and didn't work and how to improve.) | X X |
| Shopper (Positive attitude. Happy if something good comes out.) | X X X X X|
| Vacationer (Reluctant to actively take part, but the retro beats the regular work.) | |
| Prisoner (Only attend because they (feel they) must.) | X |
## Exercise 2: Marie Kondo
Think about your experiences in the past month or so. List them below.
For example...
- Our trip to Amsterdam
- Work in "sprints" of ~2 weeks
- Had a (very short) burnout period
- Working from home more often
- Help implement the ICTOpen poster of one of my project
- Work on a conference paper actively with the LA
- Learned new things about topic modeling and CI
- More handle on family logistics (started pre-school care, sitter on Friday)
- In-office work with Lead Applicant in Nijmegen
- Find it sometimes difficult that the office is really quiet
- 1:1 meetings with team members to tackle specific problems
- Convinced the LA to abandon a particular way of working (namely: copying code from another project and deleting everything that is not needed)
- Croatia conference
- Polpol project defined in their goals
- covid-19 package shaping nicely
- I met nice people from uva at the conference, made contact with one of them for the NLP SIG
- I had the chance to connect more with Laura and Erik at the conference, learned a lot about them
- proposed to shape the NLP course for the escience center with laura, mateusz and sven
- I have worked on the MATRICEEEEEES (hate them)
Now let's assess them:
### Sparks joy
(What went well, happy to keep)
- Croatia conference
- covid-19 package shaping nicely
- Our trip to Amsterdam
- Made progress with DigiDure and eager to continue to work on it
- Help implement the ICTOpen poster of one of my project
- Work on a conference paper actively with the LA
- Learned new things about topic modeling and CI
- In-office work with Lead Applicant in Nijmegen
- 1:1 meetings with team members to tackle specific problems
- Convinced the LA to abandon a particular way of working (namely: copying code from another project and deleting everything that is not needed)
### Throw out
(What went wrong, don't want to keep)
- Had a (very short) burnout period
- The preparation of the TUSAIL course
- Finally had some time off (the word Finally I mean!)
- Working from home more often
- I have worked on the MATRICEEEEEES (hate them)
- Find it sometimes difficult that the office is really quiet (can also change over time, when I know more people)
### Recycle
(What you want to improve and reuse)
- Polpol project defined in their goals
- The preparation of the TUSAIL course
- Work in "sprints" of ~2 weeks
- I met nice people from uva at the conference, made contact with one of them for the NLP SIG
- More handle on family logistics (started pre-school care, sitter on Friday)
- proposed to shape the NLP course for the escience center with laura, mateusz and sven
- Went to the Byvanck Lecture (Archaeology) with Valentina, got to know her better and also made conncetions for new research plans
- I really want to shape future projects more to my interest, thus am eager to participate in writing proposals as well
## Exercise 3: Take Aways
What do you know now that you did not know one hour ago?
- I just realised we have a setup.py file in our package
- Nice to see that there are some new training courses/workshops under developed/proposed.
- Orange is an Open Source tool for visualizing data that can be used by researchers without (much) programming experience
- Many things about the projects that you are working on.
