### Stat 230, Case study 2
The `worldbank` data set consists of 32 variables regarding economic development in African. The information is collected at the country level, and is from 2019.
The data set was pulled from the World Banks [DataBank of World Development Indicators](https://databank.worldbank.org/source/world-development-indicators) on October 11, 2022. Below are brief descriptions of each variable included in the data set, but you can find more verbose descriptions on the DataBank cite, and you can certainly do a little background reading to help clarify some of these quantities as necessary.
There are some missing values, so be aware of this as you explore the data!
- `country`: Name of the country
- `code`: Abbreviated country code
- `region`: Region of Africa based on the United Nations regions
- `sub_saharan`: indicator for Sub-Saharan Africa, `1` denotes a country is in Sub-Saharan Africa
- `ag_land`: Agricultural land (% of land area)
- `ag_value`: Agriculture, forestry, and fishing, value added (% of GDP)
- `emissions`: CO2 emissions (metric tons per capita)
- `exports`: Exports of goods and services (% of GDP)
- `fertility`: Fertility rate, total (births per woman)
- `mobile`: Mobile cellular subscriptions (per 100 people)
- `foreign_invest`: Foreign direct investment, net (BoP, current US$)
- `gdp`: GDP (current US$)
- `gdp_growth`: GDP growth (annual %)
- `gni_pc`: GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$)
- `gni_atlas`: GNI, Atlas method (current US$)
- `gcf` Gross capital formation (% of GDP)
- `measles`: Immunization, measles (% of children ages 12-23 months)
- `imports`: Imports of goods and services (% of GDP)
- `industry`: Industry (including construction), value added (% of GDP)
- `inflation`: Inflation, GDP deflator (annual %)
- `internet`: Individuals using the Internet (% of population)
- `life`: Life expectancy at birth, total (years)
- `short_debt`: Short-term debt (% of total external debt)
- `imf_credit`: Use of IMF credit (DOD, current US$)
- `merch`: Merchandise trade (% of GDP)
- `military`: Military expenditure (% of GDP)
- `barter`: Net barter terms of trade index (2000 = 100)
- `devel_assist`: Net official development assistance and official aid received (current US$)
- `fixed_phones`: Fixed telephone subscriptions (per 100 people)
- `pop_growth`: Population growth (annual %)
- `pop_density`: Population density (people per sq. km of land area)
- `pop`: Population, total
- `services`: Services, value added (% of GDP)
- `area`: Surface area (sq. km)
