Key values/concepts to base the Manifesto on: - Impact. On the topics you care about. In a fast-moving world (digitalization, climate change, etc.) a way to share insight and resources is critical. With tools (opportunities, insights, canvases) to help you be effective in getting results and having more impact. Ability to find the people/organizations that can help you to make progress; as complex challenges can’t be solved by acting alone. Users can find value in every interaction, enjoy the feeling of collaborating and having impact in a direct way on things you care about; much more than if just giving money to a charity. - Open. To everyone; open to ideas/experimentation/innovation, which are needed to solve complex problems; online, with transparency on the progress that is being made; make connections; breaking down barriers/no more silos; open source, so you can contribute to making the platform better for everyone’s benefit - Inclusive. Working together; invitation to everyone who wants to make a difference/have impact; benefit everyone; easy to connect. By putting the challenge central it changes the focus, allowing everyone that wants to help able to do so. Help make the change happen, shape your future! How Alkemio enables working together in an effective way to solve challenges (noting that Alkemio is not just about working together, it is all with the aim of solving challenges) - Open to everyone, wisdom of the crowd; engaging your citizens/stakeholders in a real-time environment (online, open) to be sure you are moving in the right direction; gets more people involved - Sharing of experiences and resources - Enables breaking complex challenges into smaller parts (opportunities), where people can share insights/experiences, do experimentation and innovation - Online, with real-time tracking of progress and feedback - Creating a community around a hub/challenge, of people/organizations who want to help solve that challenge Key things to keep in mind for the Manifesto - Keep the language simple, with easy to understand words and phrases - It should be a bit exciting/inspiring, so that people who read it want to join and help to achieve the purpose of the company - The vision should be about something that will always remain important, even if there is technological/political/cultural change (“working together to solve challenges and build a better future”) - Credibility + rational: Purpose driven team. How we love tech and want to have tech make it easy for people to work together to solve challenges. Backed by a foundation with the mission to “Enabling society to work together effectively towards a better future, with everyone able to contribute”. Ensuring purpose is core to everything, not big tech / other interests. - That society needs a platform like Alkemio: (i) to solve challenges, and (ii) for people to experience the joy/satisfaction of collaborating on and contributing to these challenges, especially in an increasingly online world (iii) that puts purpose before profit. - Make it real, with (i) examples of the challenges being faced and (ii) how Alkemio enables you to make progress - How Alkemio is also for organizations who have private challenges with multiple stakeholders; so it isn’t just for challenges that benefit society/everyone; and how it is for challenges big and small, including local community initiatives. The examples of challenges should also cover these types of use cases - That Alkemio is not just for ‘new challenges’ caused by a fast-moving world; it is also for old-world challenges that haven’t yet been sufficiently solved - How Alkemio is a new way of working together on challenges; how it is there to help people from different organizations and countries to work together to solve challenges. - How everything on Alkemio is set up to enable you to make progress on the challenges you care about; challenges are central; all activities are centred on solving the challenges; and Alkemio provides tools to help you be more effective in doing so. Alkemio is always open to feedback from users as to how to improve the platform. - Enables real-time tracking of progress and feedback. This should be an important feature of Alkemio compared to the way many multi-stakeholder projects currently are run (off-line, takes time for a team to prepare a report, then more time for the report to be reviewed, etc.) - The ‘open’ value is relevant for so much of how Alkemio can have impact, too much for just one short paragraph, so we may want to have the open value in multiple paragraphs. - It is the users that will create the change and build the better future, not Alkemio. Alkemio is the platform that enables them to do that - Be explicit as to what types of users are being targeted, i.e. everyone: individuals, public bodies, NGOs, NPOs, companies. As this is a big differentiator vs other platforms. - And that it is really for everyone, so not just for people who are good at tech - Keep the wording positive, about what you want to do, your mission/vision, something that everyone can buy into; and not about what you want to avoid - A community for each hub, and for each challenge - Should we play a bit more on the frustration that people have with the current ways to contribute, where it is often limited to just making money donations and you often don’t control what specific challenges/causes it is used for? - How Alkemio is not just trying to make the existing contributors more effective, but to grow the number of contributors by making it easier to help - That Alkemio is to be a self-sustaining platform with revenues and strong talent and a great place to work; it isn’t relying on charity/donations --- ## Comments Merijn I like many of the suggested changes of Fintan. I have a few remarks in general 1. In the second paragraph I'm not sure everyone will immediately understand what the product really is/does and I miss some characteristics about the product itself: Along the lines of: the platform should be easy to use, intuitive, practical simple etc.. Expressing that we want to build something that can be used by everyone in a easy way which delivers results. Maybe also referring to the additional enabling services are necessary to achieve people to be successful with the platform. 2. I miss a small paragraph about the Alkemio organisation that expresses the need to be economically sustainable: That we want to build a product a/o provide a service which is valuable and will generate revenue so that we can build a successful organisation which is able to attract the right talent and invest in its future. That needs to generate revenue and able to reward employees and investors but will distribute remaining net profits in line with the goals of the Foundation? 3. I would not make the manifesto too "hoogdravend" (pompous..) I rather keep it very down to earth, practical. We should not position us as idealists who want to change the world but as professionals (pragmatic, ambitious etc) who see a need for better cooperation and want to build a successful product and organisation. ## Manifesto Fintan 7 June My understanding of the structure of the manifesto: 1st paragraph: How the platform helps people to work together to solve challenges, in a new way. Gives a quick image of what Alkemio is all about. 2nd paragraph: How the platform helps you to make progress on your challenges, with online collaboration helping with innovation and finding solutions. Aimed at organizations who have challenges they want to manage better. 3rd paragraph: Openness. Aimed mainly at individuals. 4th paragraph: Connecting. Aimed at everyone. 5th paragraph: The principles/purpose of the Alkemio team and foundation Some questions/thoughts: - The words ‘you care about’ are at the end of each of the first 4 paragraphs, which I assume is on purpose? - Should we mention how Alkemio is for all types of users, including public bodies, NGOs, NPOs, corporates, people. As this is a big differentiator from other platforms. - Should we mention how challenges is clearly defined and can be broken down into smaller opportunities to enable experimentation and innovation. - What about ‘with multiple stakeholders/parties’ in the 2nd paragraph, do we need to be explicit about this, given it is a key attraction of Alkemio to some users?
