# Gosh APP notes - ## Alex Walker ### 1. The User onboarding When I started, it was obvious that Gosh wanted to know which brands/products I liked. But I wasn't 100% clear what it was offering to help ***ME*** with. At various times I guessed : - Is this a 'hot customized deals' app? - Is it 'social communities forming around brands'? (kinda like a StackOverflow / Discord for brands)? - Is it a 'shopping helper bot' - like "if you like Asics, you **really** should check out Hoka"? - Am I getting access to 'special/secret /limited edition stuff'? So, I think just really clearing up that value prop so users are like "Right! I'm here to save/get deals/whatever!". ### 2. Mobile vs desktop I've looked at Gosh on mobile and desktop and the design seems slanted heavily towards mobile. That's not a criticism - makes some sense actually. After all, Instagram has a desktop app, but mostly users are on phones. ![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SJBM6XzYC.png) However, even allowing for that, I find that bar at the bottom almost completely invisible on desktop. Maybe it's more of an issue for Dark Mode users (like me), but maybe a color choice would help? Assuming it IS a 'mobile-targeted UI', I'm happy to switch to a mobile view to review from now on.   ### 3. Adding Brands ~~Obviously there isn't much to do until you have some brands in there. Funny, when it first asked me for brand names I liked, I honestly struggled to think of any on the spot.~~ ~~Anyway, a few minutes later I suddenly thought of Brands I liked, and immediately went to the hamburger looking to add them (which didn't help).~~ ~~Not sure if that was just a 'me thing'?~~ ~~Take that for what is it.~~ Am I right in saying this 'Follow a brand' link wasn't always here? I looked to add a brand here when I first set up, but didn't notice this. ![allbirds_s_new_products_-_gosh](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/Sy41J-BF0.png) ### 4. The Search It wasn't clear to me what I was searching here. ![amwalker_s_new_products_-_gosh](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/HJjGZlSY0.png) - Is this stuff in MY collection? - Is this the Gosh product database? - Is this brands / external doamains? - All the above? I started typing in a brand name (i.e 'Jack and Jones'), hoping it might help me, but there didn't seem to be an auto-suggest giving me hints. Clearing up the proposition I mentioned in point #1 probably clears the search up too? ![search_-_gosh](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/rkUu61St0.png) ### 5. Email sign in ![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SyHx9XMtR.png) I like email sign-ins but would be good to just be able to click this as a link. ### 6. Why do the cards look semi-transparent sometimes? ![new_-_feed_-_gosh](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/BydrUlSFC.png) ### 7. 'The Drop' So I got the email a few days after I set up the Gosh account, clicked on a product and got this - which is probably the point where it 'clicked' with me a bit. ![Brooks_Cascadia_18_from_runningwarehouse_-_gosh](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/SJ3y9gSY0.png) Now that price tracker is potentially quite useful to me! I churn through runners pretty quickly. Being notified when my runners are half price somewhere would be great. Currently there's no legacy data in that system yet, but once there's 3-6 months of data, that graph might be cool. Reckon I'd love a 'booze alert' that would fit that model too. Who is discounting 'Canadian Club 24 cans' this week? --- I recorded a 5-minute loom video of me just working out the app as I went - which might be of some value. https://loom.com/share/edf8b666434446c883fe703bf185ae29?src=composer
