# OSCAL POA&M Public Notice Email Hello OSCAL Community, This is a public notice to solicit, over the next 30 days, the community members' comments regarding a potential change to [the OSCAL Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M) JSON Model](https://pages.nist.gov/OSCAL/reference/latest/plan-of-action-and-milestones/json-outline/). The considered change will align the JSON Model with [the OSCAL Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M) XML Model](https://pages.nist.gov/OSCAL/reference/latest/plan-of-action-and-milestones/xml-outline/). ### Technical details In the JSON Model, an element of `risk` is aliased as [`remediation`](https://pages.nist.gov/OSCAL/reference/latest/plan-of-action-and-milestones/json-reference/#/plan-of-action-and-milestones/risks/remediations), whereas in the POA&M XML model it is [`response`](https://pages.nist.gov/OSCAL/reference/latest/plan-of-action-and-milestones/xml-reference/#/plan-of-action-and-milestones/risk/response). More details can be found in the GitHub issue below. https://github.com/usnistgov/OSCAL/issues/1618 **We have determined a change will constitute a break in backwards compatibility.** It is the intent of the NIST OSCAL Team to not schedule this change (to alter the JSON element from `remediation` to `response` in the JSON Model to match the XML equivalent element) for the near-term, unless community's feedback leads us to review prioritization after the comments period of 30 days ends. If you are a community member, we kindly ask you to [provide your feedback on this particular comment in the GitHub issue](https://github.com/usnistgov/OSCAL/issues/1618#issuecomment-1448987133). - If you agree with the comment and **do not consider this change urgent** for you or your collaborators, please select the "thumbs up" (`+1`) [as a reaction to this comment](https://github.blog/2016-03-10-add-reactions-to-pull-requests-issues-and-comments/). - If you disagree nwith the comment and **do consider this change urgent** for you or your collaborators, please select the "thumbs down" (`-1`) [as a reaction to this comment](https://github.blog/2016-03-10-add-reactions-to-pull-requests-issues-and-comments/). - Add your own comment on the issue to provide your view points or ask a question that will assist you in making a decision before the 30 day deadline. Alternatively, you can provide comments [via methods listed on our website](https://pages.nist.gov/OSCAL/contact/). We will review them, but, for transparency, we strongly prefer the method above and only consider the alternative methods on a case-by-case basis. On 31 March 2023, we will close the feedback window, determine next steps, and apprise the community any change in prioritization. Thank you in advance for your collaboration and support. Regards, The NIST OSCAL Team
