--- tags: Projects --- # Product Concept Statement ## Presentation ### Ideas for "why the app" - Noah - I'd leave out a specific "what problems does this app solve and who is it aimed at" section, as it should be clear from the concept statement. - One the "UKN Buddies" slide we can just say: - "The project we chose is "UKN Buddies", and to give you an idea of what it's about / how we envision it at this point, we'll now present our projects concept statement." ### Ideas for "why the app" - Aamir -International Students face a lot of issues as new incomers to a new country and in order to facilitate these we need a concrete solution to eradicate it. As we all know every year Uni konstanz too hosts many internationals students, international office does provide the students with some help in miscellaneous ways but it is not as efficient as one would desire and hence we propose an App which solves the new incomers issues at the tip of their fingers. That brings us to a point where we would like to propound our concept statement as follow... next slide. *The above is what i intend to speak* ( not a fan of stating problems here as we have already mentioned that in our concept statement, so keeping that as a suspense for the concept statement slide ) ### Final Presentation 1 PPT Thoughts-Presentation points - first slide like the last time - second slide name of the app and reasoning behind (a logo maybe if we have time) - third slide about our target audience basically the user roles and mode or medium of use (smartphone app). Concerns because there are asumptions not actual surveys. - fourth slide our concept statement - Thanks for your precious time slide - Q&A ### App Name AmiGO UKN Buddies StartEZ Buddy4U MyUniBuddy ## Drafts ### 1.3.4 After final version (Explicitly explains what a buddy is in contrast to 1.3.3) UKN Buddies is a smartphone app aimed at creating a more engaging and welcoming experience for incoming internationals at Uni Konstanz, getting them more attached to the Uni Konstanz brand and allowing them to focus on studies and making friends quickly. By entering some basic information, bio and interests, the app will help incoming internationals match with a local student, a Buddy, in a matter of minutes, who can help them out with their queries. Whether it's going through German forms or connecting to Eduroam, users can create a task using the app's collaborative to-do list. They can add and schedule tasks, set priorities, and complete them with the help of their Buddy. Instead of using Facebook events, the Buddy can also create, share and invite students to activities, like a tour of the Uni or an invitation for a Lakeside BBQ, allowing students to socialize and experience new cultures. ### 1.3.3 TEAM Final Version UKNBuddies is a smartphone app aimed at creating a more engaging and welcoming experience for incoming internationals at Uni Konstanz, getting them more attached to the Uni Konstanz brand and allowing them to focus on studies and making friends quickly. UKNBuddies will feature a streamlined buddy-picker interface, based on small motivational statements by buddies. This is combined with an interest-based recommendation system, letting students find a great match in minutes. Also, UKNBuddies will present a list of shared activities, intended to inspire and motivate. Completing these will grant rewards like a filling progress bar, fun animations, or even a custom metal student ID card. We propose “Name”. A smartphone application for incoming international students at Uni Konstanz, which will help connect them with an enrolled student, a buddy. A students buddy will give them a first foot in the door for social life and serve as their first address for learning about the overwhelming number of things they will need to learn about. From a new language, to how to find their way out of the University Library. To make sure that students can find the buddy who's right for them, "Name" wil provide a streamlined buddy-picker interface where they can choose between buddies based on small motivational statements by the buddy, giving an insight on their personality and anything else they want to share about themselves. This is combined with an interest-based recommendation system, letting students find a great match in minutes. On top of this, "Name" will keep students enganged by presenting a list of essentail activities which the student and the buddy can complete together. The buddy can edit this list and mark items as completed, which will result in a progress meter filling up in the student's app. Once the progress meter is filled up, the student will be rewared with attractive perks like a custom metal student ID card or other perks. "Name" will create a more engaging welcome experience for students at Uni Konstanz, allowing them to start connecting with locals and getting the help they need right away. This will leave them with a more positive experience, getting them more attached and excited about the Uni Konstanz brand and helping them kickstart their new lifes, allowing them to focus more on studies and making friends. ### Idea 1.2 “Name” is a smartphone application for incoming international students, aimed at making their transition to the University life fun and easy. The application will allow incoming students to easily find and connect with an enrolled student, a buddy, who will help them getting started in Konstanz. Apart from helping out, the buddies also get an oppurtunity to meet new people and experience various cultures. Using a simple collaborative task management system, students and buddies can share, track and complete important tasks together and easily. From finding a local grocery store, opening a bank account or a tour of the University, the student and the buddy can navigate new challenges in fun ways. "Name" intends to simplify the lives of incoming students, better than "CompetetionProductName" does, allowing students to focus on more important things, studies and making new friends. ### Idea 1.1 "Name" is a smartphone application which will make it easy and fun for incoming foreign students to get life and study at their new University started. The application will allow incoming students to easily select and connect with an enrolled student, who will serve as their guide for setting up their new lifes. Through a simple collaborative task management system coupled with gamification elements, completing and keeping track of the most important tasks will become super easy and fun for incoming students. With "Name" making the experience of (integrating at a new University) much less painful and cumbersome, and serving as a first foot-in-the-door for connecting with locals, exchange students will have more time focusing on more important things, like studies and making friends. (setting their new lives on a great trajectory from the very start) ### Idea 1 "Name" is a smartphone application which will make it easy and fun for incoming foreign students to get life and study at their new University going. (setting their new lives on a great trajectory from the very start) #### Concerns - [x] Noah: Little too long (159 words at the time of writing) - [x] Noah: Last paragraph is a little redundant - [ ] Noah: Should maybe touch on the buddy experience a bit more - [ ] All: 1. or 2. Paragraph: Add a line about how budy benefits - [ ] All: More concrete examples - Ideas: - Maybe add examples of how buddy can help in the 2. Paragraph - Add a paragraph about whats wrong with the current situation at the very top - Mention some concrete things the app helps with in the last paragraph #### Questions for the tutors - [ ] Is gamification and rewards too specific? - [ ] Should we be more specific when it comes to usage examples? - Do we want an introductory sentence giving context on what is wrong with the current experience? - Or maybe we could integrate that in the last paragraph - [ ] Should we be more specific about the features / concrete user interaction? - [ ] We're not convinced of the collaborative task management system and such - do you think it makes sense? - [ ] Do you have any ideads for how the app could help students integrate into their new lives beyond connecting them to a buddy? - [ ] Is it bad if we mention very high level benefits, like meeting locals or havin more time for studies? #### Old stuff and notes for Idea 1 [Introductory sentence - Very high level goal] (((The application will provide a platform for sharing and managing important tasks and resources))) Through an easy to use system for the exchange student and their mentoring counterpart to The application will also serve as an easy to use platform, allowing the exchange student and their mentoring counterpart to (The application aims to make the many necessary but cumbersome tasks which the exchange student will have to perform, like (acquiring a student ID, or ...) more fun and easy to keep track of and complete by allowing the mentoring student to set up tasks in the app which the exchange student will be rewarded for completing with delightful animations and other perks.) [Too in depth] "Name" will help exchange students at Uni Konstanz getting started living in Germany and studying at the University of Konstanz, by connecting them with more experienced students and guiding them allong the way of becoming a (while allowing ) (Through finding a buddy and helping the with most important ...).(Also mention the buddy side maybe) [how people will use it] [high level description of features] By connecting them with older students and guiding them along the most crucial activities necessary for getting their new lives on track, "Name" aims to - Produce "High quality matches" ("High quality matches" is too technical and abstract) - Make finding "High quality matches" easy by ... - Make it easy to connect through dedicated means of communication - (might elaborate on that on a high level) - By - Make it easy and fun to determine and complete the most important activities for getting started - v This stuff is too specific I think - ((Make it adapt to individual needs though a customizable collaborative task manager or sth)) - Motivate and produce good impression through a delightful interfact with animation rewards for completing stuff (We might not wanna commit to this cause it might be quite hard becuase none of us are artists, right?) [Design vision / experience aimed for] [Ending - What is overall effect / high level benefit / Describe why it's useful] - Painless process - Leave a good impression of Uni Konstanz - Get a footing in daily life and (in social life) - More time to focus on studies ### Idea 2 An app with two user accounts , one for the student and one for the buddy. An automated verification system at the time of signing up allowing actual students and buddies from the University. Student will have its own profile with their personal Info and some public info, similarly for the buddy account there would be two such options. When the student is logged in he/she will be shown suggestion by the system for available buddies and these suggestions will depend upon some parameters which also includes student details, for example languages known or pursuing studies in some particular field. Students sends a request to an active (here active means that if the buddy is available for the volunteering or not, controlled by the a toggle ) registered buddy. Once the buddy accepts the request then the personal information( phone number, whatsapp etc) from both the parties would be visible before that only public info such as Name and education field. 5 main activities which would be a baseline for all the buddies to be known will be added as tasks to tickets for the buddy and student which he or she needs to complete in order to settle down in the city initially for example opening an bank account, getting a sim card or leads to find an Apartment(if not available already) or getting to known cheapest supermarkets nearby. Once all these tasks are over students will get an option availabe to rate a buddy, this rating will not be a part of the front end but will only support backend of the system as one of the inputs for the buddy suggestion algorithm, so that the next student who tries to find a buddy gets the best suggestions. All ratings will be anonymous and will only be used to improvise the suggestion architecture. ## Information on how to write it 1. Session 3 slides, page 31 :::info **Answer the following questions** - What is the product’s name? - Who will use this product? - How will they use it? - What are major attractions to, or distinguishing features of, this product? - What is the design vision and the experience it will deliver? ::: 2. (I didn't get the rest of his answer) (Other) - [ ] We should send them our statement tomorrow (today: 17.11.) - [ ] And add our questions / concerns about the lack of useful things we could do Presentation points - first slide like the last time - second slide name of the app and reasoning behind (a logo maybe if we have time) - third slide about our target audience basically the user roles and mode or medium of use (smartphone app) - fourth slide our conept statement - Thanks for your precious time slide - Q&A I feel 5 slides are enough for 5 minutes, simple and straighforward, maybe we can talk about what template we should go for ( i am okay with uni konstanz template i used the last time, cos it looks more Profi or the one mohnish suggested )
