# An impressive KCD journey: the success of DaLian KCD

KCD DaLian was held successfully on April 15th. It was a whole day conference with 2 tracks, Kubernetes multi-cluster, and software supply chain security, 20 topics, 22 lecturers from DaLian, Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen in China, as well as more than 220 participants attending the conference.

## Beautiful city, impressive conference

Dalian is a coastal city in the northeast of China, it is not only famous for its delicious seafood, and comfortable living environment, but also for the IT high-tech industry. A lot of top foreign companies have sites in DaLian, such as IBM, Oracle, SAP, Rakuten, etc. IT developers have exceeded 2.5 million.

However, Dalian never held such big Cloud Native events before. Meetup (a half day, 4-5 topics) was organized by [China Cloud Native Community](https://clounative.to) in 2020,2021 and 2022. So organizing such big events is a huge challenge for organizers, [Kevin](),[Addo]() and [Mike](https://github.com/majinghe). A lot of things needed to be done, such as looking for sponsors, CFP, hotel reservations, participants check-in, and so on.

Fortunately, all the problems were solved because of our great sponsors, and excellent volunteers:

Finally, the result is great, "impressive, excellent, cool" were the keywords from speakers, volunteers, and participants, yes, KCD DaLian was different from the previous KCD in China.

## New attempt, different result

Previously, in China, cloud-native conferences were always held in super cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen as well as HangZhou, which had big IT technology companies, such as Huawei, Alibaba, Tencent, and so on. But for KCD DaLian, we had a new attempt, and from the result, we got some points.

1. KCD organizers can choose some famous cities to hold KCD besides those super cities, maybe Chengdu, and Chongqing will be good choices.
2. Travel and delicious food can be considered at the conference, which can attract developers in other cities to register for the conference, after the knowledge learning, they can be tourists to learn about a new city.

## Looking forward 2024

We strongly believe KCD can help developers in DaLian have a better understanding of Cloud Native and this is not the only chance for KCD in DaLian. Maybe the next year, KCD DaLian will be held again with more speakers, more topics, and more cloud native best practices.
