:::warning # PRESENT CONTINUOUS ::: FORM : I am doing The **Present Continuous** is used to express: - An action that is happening (or not happening) now - A continuous action currently in progress - An action happening in the near future - Repetition and irritation > We use **I'm doing** when we say we have **arranged to do** e.g. arranged to meet somebody, arranged to go somewhere: - What time **are you meeting** Ann this evening ? - **I am leaning** tomorrow. I've got my plane ticket **Examples:** - I am reading about English grammar. It's an action happening at the very moment. Words to look for: now, right now, at the moment, etc. - You are finishing your studies at the university. (It's an action in progress at the current time. The person is currently in the process of finishing their studies.) - We are coming to visit you tomorrow. (The action will happen in the near future) - He is always interrupting other people. (It's something that is irritating and repeats) Words to look for: always, constantly, etc **Form**: I am going to do > I **am going to do** something = I've decided to do it ( but perhaps not arranged to do it ): - 'Your shoes are dirty' - 'Yes, I know. I **am going to** clean them.' > Something is going to happen in the future: - Look at the sky! It **is going to** rain. - I feel terrible. I think I **am going to** be sick.
