# Data Unions Community Event
## something like a roadmap
- [ ] flesh out the proposal esp. think about which communities to involve and the "granularity"
- [ ] contact former project members to get things going (also the project consisted of ~30 people and I started discussing details in streamr.network without giving anybody a change to get involved or object)
- [ ] plan ahead a little bit for a conference or similar I have in mind mainly with local researchers but can of course be opened up
- [ ] most importantly: get feedback on some technical aspects that puzzle me and where I find it best to actively involve researchers directy. e.g. I prepared a text to share with Karl Koch (paper shared by @marlene recently) and Yalda (in MolochDAO). Comprehension of research topics like privacy preserving analytics, multipart computing and the discussion on upcoming L2 technology is now in reach for me but still very tough. This calls for scientific workshops and exchange. But one step after the other.
## DRAFT for streamr community event
We plan a community event with talks and discussion about concepts, techniques and applications of data unions.
If you want to learn about Data Unions (DU) and share thoughts about your personal or business direction, please join us. This particular event is organized with new community members in mind. While the concept of DU is still new, at the same time there are already applications emerging that make decentralized data applications a reality.
About the organizer: I just joined RxC community very recently after reading [Weyl,Posner] and got immersed into the technical and organisational ecosystem. The biggest surprise for me was the observation that cryptocurrencies and ideas of radical markets can be combined to achieve the seemingly impossible: Make markets more free and social and the same time efficient and ... (TODO. needs more work, we don't want to sound too pathetic here, it's hard)
To me streamr just looks like the right technology for a distributed data transport layer for scientific data. As a science community we never enabled true federation between research communities. (I was involved in a three years project and I deeply regret my ignorance of radical markets approach). On the other hand, there are still scientific communities demanding interoperable data solutions.
## What are data unions?
## Why is it helpful?
(for society, for open markets)
## Whats in for me?
based on user roles, e.g data provider (swash user), node operator, developer (grants/gitcoin etc.)
## When?
In May? We are not in a hurry.
## Call for contributions
Small contributions help.
### Preps
To make this community event a success for new members we need to prepare some things:
- Slideset for (a subset of) [Weyl, Posner] ideas: Data as labour, immigration visa idea, quadratic voting, ...
- or we concentrate on things mandatory for understanding DU (data dignity, "skin in the game", possibly outlook to DAOs)
- What else?
### Speakers
communities: medical, genomic, biomodelling, sensors, tbc. and also rural, sports, music etc.
