# Gitcoin and Open Source Evolution

Values are at the core of organizations of the future, Gitcoin has expressed some amazing values seen here: https://gitcoin.co/mission
- Self Reliance
- Intellectual Honesty
- Collaboration
- Empathy
- Stress Reducers
- Inclusivity
- Giving First
The future of organizations are communities, communities with voice, autonomy & equal access to opportunities.
> We identify and validate our assumptions.
Gitcoin is currently stradling the line between two worlds: The future world of Web3 & the old world of Web2 yet change is afoot.
> We listen.
Many of us know the story of the old world organizations chasing power and profits, gobbling up the competion in a race to the bottom. It is why we got into this space, to overcome the struggles of a generation of software developers.
> We happen to the world. We don't let the world happen to us.
### Community first is more than just a mantra

Communities are at the center of everything in Web3, they must be nurtured & grown in a healthy and supportive way. Yet community work has not been valued as highly as being a Code Ninjas or a Solidity Wizard.
> We challenge the status quo & are willing to be challenged.
The community that has been built up around Gitcoin is extrememly developer heavy and community light. Bounty hunters abound and when the issues are clear cut and well spec'd the hunting is good, but hackathons are another beast entirely, in some cases they are bootstrapping communities from the ground up. Prizes alone don't inspire lasting contributions, values and purpose do. Vision and mission are the elements that make people do the extraordinary, that inspire them to strive for greater personal growth, to lift each other, to seek meaning and purpose in their work.
> We care about people (not just tasks).
Communities are held together by that shared purpose, not just the clients who support the bottom line. One without the other is an imbalance that cannot persist. Every organization comes to a point where it must make a choice: to pursue the motives of profit or to aspire to a nobler pursuit that aligns with best interests of the community. It is a delicate balance that many organizations are unable to maintain.
> We seek balance.

The Ethereum community seem allergic to the toxic "profit at all costs" mantra that has been the staple of FAANG companies. We see through the smoke screens of adversiting & PR campaigns aimed at downplaying the negative impacts of the attention economy created by these mega corps. People have become products bought and sold daily by advertisers.
## Challenging The Status Quo
“When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves.” – **Viktor E. Frankl**
The evolution of an organization is not an easy thing, it takes courage, vision, & tenacity. It is the kind of stuff that legends are made of. When the task is approached with honesty and vulnerability it is often just the thing that proves to catapult an organization forward, breathing new life and enery into all those involved.
> We show, don't tell.
---
Moving forward I know that Gitcoin has a great chance to continue it's mission of building the Open, Free, Fair, and Sustainable web of the future. In my opinion it will require doubling down on the communtity efforts, which is where I seek to have an impact.
## Yalor's Values
- Integrity: In actions, words & intentions
- Clarity: In designs, communications: written & spoken
- Empowerment: In my own role & as a tool to lift up others
I have been a member of the wider Ethereum community for about 3 years, first getting involved with the social coding program at Giveth back in 2017. I have been constantly inspired in that time by the energy and enthusiasm of people building project and protocols. I find myself fascinated with DAOs and the novel ways in which they are organizing themselves. Raidguild was the first DAO that I joined and is still near and dear to my heart. Finding a tribe that you bond with is a deeply meaningful and satisfying expereince that cannot be underestimed.
The way that our DAO has come to coordinate is a lesson in and of itself, highly aligned, value driven, and completely organic.
Stories of liberation and individuals leveling up abound:

## Why Am I Saying All This ?
DAOs are a huge part of the Future of Work or they could be, if we promote them and foster the right culture, with the right people.
I want to work on DAOs, not DAO frameworks. I love helping launch DAOs and i've had the honor of being invovled in 20+ DAO launches on 5 different chains [RaidGuild](www.RaidGuild.com), [DAOhaus](https://daohaus.club/) and [MetaCartel](www.metacartel.org) being a few of the most notable. Ive gained invaluable experience from all thesr launches. I seek to empower others with that knowledge so that many more Bands of Web3 mercenaries can rise to the call of a changing world, so that individuals can contribute their skills to a group, so that members can support eachother, so that we can strengthen the fabric of Web3 builders, beyond blockchain's, beyond politics, and beyond competition. Together we are stronger than the sum of our parts.
I believe Gitcoin is the perfect breeding ground for launching DAO based organizations, with help from the tools in productions by [DAOhaus](https://daohaus.club/) and lessons from the [RaidGuild](https://raidguild.org/) we could create something truly magical that aligns with the vision of Ethereum.
If this interests you, in any way shape or form I would love to discuss how we can work together to make this vision a reality :crystal_ball:
