- XALT will now use (xalt-2.10.41+) the **install** program
- Rules `id -u` <= 500 => umask 022, otherwise user umask
- Umask of 022 => mode = 755
- Umask of 077 => mode = 700
- A mode of 755 is for executable files, 644 for non-executable files
- Sites can override with --with-mode=750 etc

## Discussion:
- Find breakover between User and Root types:
- linux uses /etc/login.def and grep for UID_MIN 1000
- MacOS does not have the /etc/login.def file
- Need to add where the link.\*.json file is written in ld.in flowchart.
- Does XALT's use of LD_PRELOAD (outside of linking) cause a problem
- There may have been a problem with TotalView with earlier version of XALT or ALT.d but none have been reported.
- Will change ld.in to turn off LD_PRELOAD for xalt programs inside ld.in instead of for all of ld.in and the real ld.
