High-level Details

• Online event
• Allow up to teams of 4
• 1 month runtime
  • 3 weeks for hacking, 1 for judging?
  • Not set in stone for now
• All code should be made open source/publicly available after the hackathon is over.
• Entries can be considered for two categories at once if requested (no more though).
• Still needs a cool name that is not "WebXR Hackathon"
  • Preferably something with "Immersive" in it
  • Metafest would be cool but too many people have already used this name (myself included)
  • SpatialHack one option

Categories

Shortlist of categories that could provide interesting challenges:

• Web3/NFTs
  • How can we enable creation and make use of immersive, decentralized applications?
    • Need novel solutions for immersive wallet interactions
    • Ethereum will probably be the dominant chain we see here but we should encourage any
    • Could possibly encourage WebXR integration into existing Dapps
      • Could involve integrating VR support like Cryptovoxels has
      • Auto-generated immersive Mintbase galleries as another example
• Could possibly encourage WebXR integration into existing Dapps

Entry Guidelines

• Using preexisting code is allowed, but work on entries must start only after the hackathon has begun.
• Entries will be able to be submitted in up to two categories as a zipped, immersive experience that will be hosted on the event website.
  • Will likely need to provide instructions for people on how to do this for all frameworks, just for the sake of clarity.
• Entries will also need a title, description, screenshot, list of contributors, and a URL to wherever their version control is (doesn't need to be made public initially, but after submissions close ideally all repos should become public)
• All submitted entries must be functional and work as-described with no breaking errors.

WebXR hackathon idea came when started server
Have a series of them, first being decentralization
Interest for awhile for some of us at intersection web3xr to expand on this combination, see more projects that try to help build out decentralized and immersive internet

Overall theme: decentralization

Make a point not having just to crypto-native people
Still divide between web3 ppl, against, undecided
Level playing field for both sides to approach best way to go about it
Cross-pollination between them, see potential of other side
Help people understand these things, not everyone super well versed in these

Diff categories be very general:

• Decentralized games
• Decentralized ways of carrying identity / auth
  • ENS / IDX
• Virtual market places
  • Have cc0 booth / cryptomachine assets
• Best looking experience as criteria

Kavya: XR safety initiative
self sovereign identity, decentralization, open metaverse, close to heart. Fairly recently do XR safety week, invite communities operating in fields to share what they're doing, end with EFF on 10th of December

Have tutorials on lighting / rendering, post processing on these things to look good. Break stigma on bad looking experiences.

AArcade: not too familiar with web3, how to participate?
Aspects of decentralization and webxr

Decentralized hosting count as decentralization
IPFS qualify as web3, add ENS for more points
What kind of stuff is the app doing? Integrations? Smart contracts? Prob great idea to team up with people, web3 x webxr people.

Jeffscottward: has react/nextjs boiler point ethers / ens / wallet connect ready to go. Participated in ethglobal hackathon, started with model viewer with enhanced features

Main goal is education or create as much content / experiences?

oncybr nft viewer: space / controls / camera movements would be cool landing menu

oana: new to open source, thinking in terms of what pet3rpan said, something native to web3 = business models and support, suggestion about workshop - fact we have broad lens of decentralization and anarchy arcade asking "what is web3?". Creator economy lens would be interesting, assets / biz models, need more knowledge sharing.

Creating knowledge base throughout event with high quality production

Glossery / Language guide as part of the onboarding

Apps would be able to be judged up to 2 categories, can make something and go for gaming / commerce

Don't wanna emphasize commercial t000o much, talk about ethos

Will: want to onboard artists, 3D artists, see how we can put art into category or do workshops on how to optimize art and what does web3 look like / interact with it

Definite workshop material, optimization is key, tips and tricks with blender and vroid

AArcade: Have avatar, what's the path of least resistence to convert into VRM? Pipelines and workflows (take FBX, turn into VRM). Lotta stuff is buried, have to scrub through videos.

Blueprint for these things, educational component

Jeff: doing things for average joe to get into AR creation, scaniverse on iphone uses lidar scanner - can make NFTs out of that, exporting minecraft worlds into glTF, tilt brush into VR
