### User Journey
As a user I want to play a fun game that teaches me about recycling and how to recycle household objects
---
### User Stories
1. As a user I want to choose the speed of the game
2. As a user I want to press 'Play' so that I can begin to play the game
3. As a user I want to press a button to see game instructions
5. As a user I want to play the game by dragging and dropping an item into a bin with the correct symbol for disposal
6. As a user I want the game to give me feedback on whether my attempt was right or wrong with visual, haptic or sound cues
---
6. As a user I want to see how much time I have left to play the game
7. As a user I want to complete the game and see my score
8. As a user I want to see what I got wrong and why
9. As a user I want to learn about the most appropriate disposal method for each item
10. As a user I want to be directed to somewhere I can learn more about recycling
11. As a user I want to be able to play again improve my score

### Questions
1. How old are you (or your kid(s))?
2. How long do your kid(s) have access to smart devices each week?
3. What are the kids favourite activities on devices?
4. Would you share educational games or apps with other parents?
---
5. What is your experience and opinion of games as an educational tool - any particular positive experience?
6. What do you know about recycling?
7. Do you know why recycling is important?
8. Tell us about a game that has taught you something.
9. Tell us about your favourite games and why you like them.
10. Do you like sharing game scores with friends/family and why?
---
### Key Insights from User Research
* Kids generally have less than an hour on devices during the school week, and a bit more at weekends
* For the most part kids use tablets to play games or watch videos (rather than a smartphone or laptop)
* Kids love a range of different games which usually have an educational element, bright colours and fun characters.
* Parents like their kids to play educational games
---
* Kids as young as three know at least a little about what is recyclable. Kids from about seven upwards tend to know why it is important.
* Kids like to see a game score, but aren't too bothered about sharing scores with friends or family
* Some parents like to share games that they find useful, but others worry it suggests that their kids might have too much screen time.

## User tasks
* Try playing the game
* Can you find instructions for how to play whilst you're playing?
* Can you quit from the game screen?
* Speak your thoughts aloud while exploring the app.
---
## User testing questions
* How old is your child/ are your children?
* Would you/your child be able to understand the game?
* What do you think of the overall design?
* Would you want to play this game in real life?
* Do you like the sea setting and the characters?
* Do you think you would want to play the game more than once?
* Do you think you/your child would be able to learn from the game
---
* Is everything readable and are things like buttons easy to understand where they go?
* Are there any features you thought were unnecessary or missing?
* Is there anything you definitely don't like about the game?
* Do you think you could use this game and information to teach your child about recycling?
* Did anything stick out for you that you’d like to share?
* Would you share this game with other parents?
---
### Key insights from user testing
* Parents might like an option to share the game from home and game ending screens
* It is unclear what the speed slider does on the landing page.
* The how to play page could be more comprehensive with other elements of the game added.
* It wasn't entirely clear when a correct or incorrect choice was made in the game.
* The lives and points system was unclear on first try.
* Perhaps there needs more of a nudge/easier indication to create desire to play again.
---
* Some of the text - particularly in the info page is quite lengthy. Even parts that are aimed for further discussion with parents could be more geared towards being read by the kids too - use bullet points etc.
* The game seems more 'cbeebies than cbbc' - pitched at the younger end (4-6) rather than the top end of our group (7-9), this correlates with our user research findings.
* Younger kids are still learning to read and may struggle with text elements. Voice or sound cues as well as visual feedback would be helpful.
