# Tips for PhD/Msc admission * **phD application** - To apply for Fall 2020 need to take preparation before. July/August , worse case in september TOEFl to be given. * **Field Selection** is the most important part. * Check Profile of professor related to my field, what they are working on right now? * Check for personal website for the professor, what are they working on, what things they are focusing on, what are the projects they are working with. * Deciding on what professor and what Lab do I want to work on is the main thing, then I can shortlist the universities. * Recently What are the publications of the professors, what journal they are publishing in? * Professor will be the most important part of the phD program * The senior phD holders will guide you or mentor you in the process, so we need to communicate with the seniors of the certain Lab or the seniors who are working under the professors, to get genuine feedback. * We need to make sure what they are working on genuinly, and need to make sure by communicating with the seniors and the professors of the lab. Topics must be selected in such a way based on what they are currently working on in a certain field. * **Email:** During email, we need to mention what program we are targetting for, then if applicable, we mention what achievements(papers) we have on the relevent field, and we need to ensure that the things I work on overlaps with the work the professor has done. I need to read top 5-6 papers of the professor that I am targetting in. It is better if I figure out some mistakes or some ideas to develop on the professor's work, that would reflect my interest in the topic. * We **need** to show our ***CV*** and ***WEBSITE*** to the proffessor. ' * CV: After self introduction, we can show: * Publications/Papers that I have * The research project that I have worked on, **SOTA model/tools** that I have used, techniques that I have followed for the research purposes. **Cloud based** tools that I have used so far for research based purposes. * Tools/Techniques that I have used to do self projects related to research and activities * Mention the time that you used on a research project, the projects that I have done **recently** matters most, not the ones that I have **left** long ago * The first contents of the papers matters most, so show what you have strength in at the top of **CV**. * Every professor likes to talk about their work, then ask the professor about the paper, ask some questions on the work that they have done. * First Stage is done by University, Second Stage is done by Professors * Look for research/internship opportunities to gain experience in the relvent fields. * **LOR:** Minimum 3 letters of recommendation is collected, 2 must be taken from academic supervisor, and one may be from industry. We must be involved in the research activity with the person from who we are taking **LOR** from. We need to work extensively with the professor for getting a solid **LOR**. * **LOR** can be taken from professors we have worked with long time ago. * **LOR** should be taken from someone who has completed a **PhD**. This is somewhat valid for first two **LOR**. * **LOR** should be taken from the professors who are relevent to my field of application * **SOP**: * Introduction * Motivation * Research analysis and what I have done so far * Research Vision, where do I want to go in the industry or academia, what do I want to work on. * Mention **3 professors** with whom you want to work with in the SOP. Now if we select the names of 3 professors during application, then we **must** include the name of th e professors in the **SOP**. * Open to every faculty who are related to my domain - this must be mentioned. * **We need to mail the professor whose name we mention in the SOP to understand what they are working with and are they working with the tools/techniques that I want to use in the research purposes**. * Mention these 3 things in the project: * How did you start the project/motivation behind the project? * How far have you done in the project? * You don't need to finish the project, but mention the contribution of what you did in the project. * Is the prototype of the project is being used anywhere? * **The project should be relevent to research activities** * **CGPA**: * Last Two year's cgpa * Major CGPA matters a lot, the total GPA obtained in one's major. If this is higher than the normal. * **Timeline:** * CV/Website * Select the domain you want to work on * List University * GRE/TOEFL data selection * Application submission deadline is usually december 15, so july august is a very good time to wrap u GRE TOEFL * Take LOR from professors, tell the professors that you need to take LOR for this timeline. * Write and brush up SOP, this will take the most time so keep a good amount of time for it.
