# Assumptions & Goals Wildland's goal is to provide a file storage to the user, similarly to products such as Dropbox or Google Drive, but with some crucial differences: 1. The storage infrastructure can be flexibly assigned to different storage provides (e.g. data centers). This assignment can have arbitrarily small granularity -- some users might keep the whole filesystem on one provider's infrastructure, while others might assign single directories or even files to different storages. 2. Wildland takes care about managing of the mapping between logical paths to files and folders and the storage infrastructure. This allows for painless migration as well as replication.
