The changes include improved font support for Ukrainian (and other languages) by moving from Mulish Latin to Mulish Regular - https://github.com/ukrainian-carpentries/git-novice/issues/1 - https://github.com/carpentries/varnish/issues/120 - https://github.com/carpentries/varnish/pull/133 - You can see the result e.g. in https://ukrainian-carpentries.github.io/git-novice/ - Translations progress report: the current state, after migrating translations from Transifex, for the three most completed lessons, is as follows: - git-novice: 98% translated, 79% approved (mostly done) - shell-novice: 100% translated, 9% approved (we had nearly 100% approval in transifex, so most of that can be quite straightforward) - python-novice-gapminder: 89% translated, 15% approved (major efforts needed) - Goodbye, Dracula! The "Wolfman and Dracula" scenario in the [English version of the Git lesson](https://github.com/swcarpentry/git-novice) replaced by a new one: *"Jimmy and Alfredo have been hired by Ratatouille restaurant (a special restaurant from Euphoric State University) to investigate if it is possible to make the best recipes archive ever"*. We will surely like it more. The plan is: - achieve 100% translation and approval of Git lesson - update https://ukrainian-carpentries.github.io/git-novice/ - import newest English version into Crowdin - translate and approve changed text fragments - StARIS in St Andrews: after organisational delays, Veronika continued to work on it in this semester ### Future events ### Infrastructure - Slack: - join via https://slack-invite.carpentries.org/ - then log in and join the Ukrainian channel, called `#local-ukrainian` - GitHub: - our organisation: https://github.com/ukrainian-carpentries - Glosario: https://github.com/carpentries/glosario - Crowdin: https://carpentries.crowdin.com/u - Contact Olexandr Konovalov at obk1@st-andrews.ac.uk for the initial training and getting access to the translation tools ### Discussions ### Questions ### Future plans This is where help is needed: - Further translations and reviews in [Crowdin](https://carpentries.crowdin.com/u) - Update of the workshop template - the template is https://ukrainian-carpentries.github.io/workshop-template/ - need to track updates of the English version https://github.com/carpentries/workshop-template and t them in Ukrainian one https://github.com/ukrainian-carpentries/workshop-template - Establishing website of Ukrainian Carpentries: - Can be inspired e.g. by https://edcarp.github.io/ - Should have Ukrainian and English versions - Glosario - A multilingual glossary for computing and data science terms: - 630 English terms, 95 Ukrainian translations published (15%) - Ukrainian now among the top 5 most presented languages in Glosario - Contributing via https://github.com/carpentries/glosario - see its README for contributing guide - you can add new translations or help to review currently open pull requests labeled `lang: ua` at https://github.com/carpentries/glosario/pulls ### AOB - Relevant event: Ukrainian Open Science Forum, Lviv, 21-23 November 2024: - https://peers.international/uosf-2024 - https://www.facebook.com/OPTIMAOpen (with recordings) ### Next meeting - There will be no meeting in December 2024 - The next meeting is planned on 24th January 2025, 16:00 Ukrainian time
