# Sketching Summary of method --- Sketching involves creating quick, hand-drawn visual representations of design ideas, concepts, or interfaces. It is an iterative and low-fidelity technique used in the early stages of the design process to explore, communicate, and refine ideas. Sketching makes it easy to convey a thought visually, rather than using words. as such, ideas become concrete very quickly and this can ensure that you can be certain everyone is discussing the same idea, not different conceptualisations based on a vague verbal description. Sketching has been shown to actively encourage creativity. One drawback of the method is that it requires a level of artistic skill to do well. A common example of sketching in a UX context is a paper prototype showiong screen layouts, or similar. Example of method --- ![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/H1Vw8BBtp.png) > Sketching done as part of an 'appathon' event ![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/HJm8T4SYa.png) > Some visual notes, taken live during an event. When to use this method --- This method is useful during ideation and critique of new products or services ###### tags: `method`
