# Introduction to bootcamp 1
The aim of bootcamp 1 is to provide insight into popular UX methods, especially those used in earlier stages of a design process for understanding and empathising with users.
Some of these methods will be practiced in class, others you may practice on your own. The background information may help you in your assignments.
A core skill of a UX designer is knowing how to *select appropriate methods for a given context* as well as learning how to use the selected methods in a way to elicit new insights and requirements for the problem at hand. As such, in this course the choice of methods you use in your projects is up to you and you jmight also look outside this guidebook and identify alternative methods.
