When you join the call make sure your microphone is muted :mute: (button :one:) and your camera off (button :two:) ### Non-verbal feedback To access to the non-verbal feedback actions, click on reactions and you'll get a popup menu similar to this one. ![non-verbal feedback zoom buttons](https://www.rluk.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Screen-Shot-2020-04-28-at-11.13.20.png) #### :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed: Raise your hand to speak We are happy to get questions during the class, but please, wait that you are asked to talk. Once your question has been answered or you don't want to ask anymore you can click there again to lower your hand. To test it now, please, rise your hand when the instructor give you the signal. #### :heavy_check_mark: / :X: for questions in class During the class we will be asking some yes/no questions to see whether you agree/disagree with something, or have finished some steps. Let's test it now answering the question asked by the instructor. ### :left_speech_bubble: Chatting Button :four: is for chatting. Feel free to use it to post a general question to the instructor. However, since its interface is not very "user friendly" we won't use it for debugging problems. Rather we will prefer to use the HackMD shared document where we will have a place to post questions. ### Stop full screen mode when someone shares screen In zoom settings you can disable that when someone shares the screen your view becomes full-screen. To do so go to your zoom settings :gear: - share screen  - :black_square_button: Enter full screen when a participant shares screen ![screnshot of where to disable the full-screen mode when a participant shares screen](https://i.imgur.com/fCtZy8K.png) ### How to see everything in a small screen? We suggest you distribute your windows like this, splitting the desktop into two halves, where one half is what the instructor is sharing, and the other half for you to follow along (terminal, ide, notes). ![Image showing suggested desktop layout on a single screen: streaming input on one half, local activities on the other half.](https://rits.github-pages.ucl.ac.uk/gitworkshop/img/Teaching_git_layout.png) _Suggested desktop layout on a single screen: On the left the streaming application (blackboard, zoom, ...), on the right your local applications_ #### How to split desktop by OS - [Windows](https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-use-split-screen-in-windows-10 "split Windows desktop") - [Mac OS](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204948 "Split Mac desktop") - Linux: - [Gnome](https://linuxhint.com/gnome-split-screen-ubuntu-17/ "Split Linux/Gnome desktop") - [KDE](https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/enable-tiling-window-support-in-kde-plasma-5/) ###### tags: `mphy0021` `teaching` `guides`
