# MetaMoloch Meeting 1-5-22
### Intentions and Aspirations
#### Recap
- We have 16 ETH to figure out a joint-funding framework that will work well for both MC and MolochDAO
- Let's start from the high level of what we all want to accomplish with this capital we have to experiment with.
#### Helmass
- It would be interesting to map the whole MC/Moloch ecosystem. If Ethereum is the chess board, let's understand the pieces and what has been funded. This is critical to determing how to the group will add value from a grants giving perspective.
- Map what we have funded and think about where we can capture synergies with projects we have already funded.
- For example: Eth Cat Herders. How do we create links between our projects to everyone's shared advantage?
- Now is the time to look introspectively from both a MC + Moloch POV: get to the core of what we fund and why, articulate successes/failures.
- Generate quantitative data! MC is great with the qualitative narrative, so now let's see if the numbers back up that story: an important part of the puzzle.
- What we have funded is on-chain; should be easy to pull and compile.
- We have 2 entities to analyze. Comparing/contrasting Moloch +/- MC to decipher the priorities. Towards asking the right questions!
- The importance of DAO-to-DAO, or project-to-project collaboration. This might be one of the metrics that we consider.
#### Jeremy
- What does our funnel look like based on the projects we have funded in the past, in both DAOs? Let's figure out our approach.
- Not only the projects, but also identifying values through all of our connections to drive more projects through exposure to our network: curating a list of connections in our shared network.
#### Travis
- The MolochDAO representitive in an unofficial capacity.
- Moloch DAO has some challenges with the Grant pipeline and figuring out what the priorites are.
- Think the initiative is important for Moloch DAO to reboot and understand what its priorties really are.
- Anemic due to lack of focus on culture. Moloch DAO should take a humbled position to metacartel has and continues to generate.
- Internal community connections and resources to share. All for an a aligned goal.
- Its clear that the goal is (we are ethereans), but what is unclear is how the projects we fund actually contribute to the ecosystem would be a great focus.
- How to clarify our policies, both from an internal and external perspective. Moloch Handbook is a dumpsterfire because no community involvement. Does not have an unique voice to it. Gleaning the most important ideals around the ecosystem.
- Moloch DAO is a great usecase. Reinvigorating Moloch is to everyones benefit. Moloch DAO should be giving back to metacartel
- MolochDAO sponsored RG to create an annual report. Does this information benefit MC? TW can compile the report and we can scrutinize it together.
- MC as a curator of the MolochDAO funds? Can MC invetigate Moloch's pain points and *help them unlock the value of their treasury?* Through this process, can MC get some clarity on some project directions (related to Moloch's pain points) that will generate maximum value for the wider ecosystem?
#### Yalor
- One solution solves multiple use cases
- If MC can successfully allocate funding to projects in a clear and transparent way, we can identify what/why we fund, the impact, document through retroactive blog posts. Ultimately this pushes forward stronger initiatives between MC+Moloch, Gitcoin, etc.
- MC has a strong ops squad. Let's hone in on what we fund and why. Let's turn inwards. The cultural aspects of MC has been undervalued in the community-wide ecosystem and it's our responsibility to document these learnings: why the projects we fund are worthwhile and reflect these cultural values of MC.
- Shall we shut down the grant pipeline for awhile? (Just a suggestion) because MC is focusing on inbound grant requests, possibly to the detriment of identifying more interesting opportunities.
- Following projects at hackathons, scouting, identifying projects that don't fall under one business model.
- A small group of highly focused peeps might make it difficult to multitask. We might incorporate a tagging system to track projects, rank them into buckets, id the fit in relation to the MC funding thesis.
- MC doesn't yet have this thesis! This could be a core deliverable. *Member retention on our proposal policies is lacking* so let's work to make this process smoother.
- The need to articulate reciprocal feedback policies for funded projects:
- 4 articles per year?
- Projects recently funded, what was funded last year, where the projects were when they approached, where they ended up due to our support
- Keeping tabs on project process will help us understand how the value (beyond the economic) is disseminated, empowers us to be better at distributing value moving forward
- Great example: Aaron with Govrn, hanging out in MC and learning/understanding that DAOs needed this tool, creating a reciprocal relation with the larger ecosystem and a better roadmap for his project. This is a success we want to keep repeating.
- Our efforts are better focused on specifically targeted grants, to support culture + economics for maximum impact
- For this group: peeps can self-assign themselves tasks and follow up decen and async. Compensation happens via Coordinape?
#### wackErow.eth
- Sounds like the need for tighter feedback loops between grantee and projects. A few higher quality projects that have the potential to generate more value and raise more funding will be the most impactful in the long run.
- Take the time to lay out clear KPIs, articulate expectations and resources, provide opportunities for them to continuously check-in
### Next Steps (for next meeting)
- TW will present the RG<>Moloch annual report work
- Let's articulate our immediate priorities, a recommendation on how to continue collaborating together (DAO-to-DAO). Specifically, the value add that we expect to derive from this collab. **A clearly stated goal and objective, tightly defined to push forward.**
- Work towards an understanding of the resources needed: a data scientist, engineer, RG outsourcing, etc.
- Define the details of the next milestone.
# MetaMoloch Meeting Notes 1-12-22
- Begin by reviewing [helmass' doc](https://hackmd.io/TEEQyL1dQdO-IWoecSdwTA?view)
- TW offered the [RG sponsorship task list](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hbULktC-PM3TiaXtmblKpFR98UNeTkxTOThlyZO4FTo/edit#gid=0) and specifically the [Burn Rate Model](https://hackmd.io/@rplust/HJI_CID5K)
### Gather a Lay of the Land
- How to evaluate progress on current projects and understand how to integrate these learnings
- Lots of projects have gone through the MC funnel and time could be spent checking in with projects. Is this a good use of our time?
- How to quantify the intangibles of project support without putting a responsibility of work on anyone's shoulders
- The MolochDAO approach has been through narrative interview. MC proposes a typeform to gather metrics on the value. Perhaps a combination that balances the quantifiable and qualitative might be appropriate?
- MC: *We fund people that have cool ideas.* We don't fund cool ideas. We should be focused on optimizing for that moving forward.
- Moloch: Interviewing ApacheTuwane (funded project) revealed they needed more moral support. Maybe open office hours could be scheduled?
- Asking people to come to one central place for check-ins is challenging. How to connect funded projects with each other? Facillitating introductions?
- Moloch: revamping the webpage to show the full history of projects that have been funded. Serves 2 purposes:
- Answer external questions about what we fund and why.
- Provide visibility of the projects to each other and facillitate these connections.
- We need to articulate clear KPIs to measure the success of the project. Is this always so easy to measure? How is *success* or *impact* measured?
- Perhaps easier in relation to apps, but how do we justify grants to projects that are difficult or impossible to quantify?
- Data is helpful for telling a story that might not be immediately apparent. Default to the gut/intuition to form the ultimate decision. At the end of the day, there's no science to how we pull the trigger.
- It's important to set up goal posts, but not necessarily to hold to them.
# Working Session 1-14-22
- @papayamaia joined the group - a data scientist to help us understand the KPIs and how we can visualize it for later.
