# A1 (deadline: 3/5) ###### tags: `Multimedia Wireless Network` :::spoiler [TOC] ::: ------- ### Five-Minute Presentation #### Overview From an audience perspective, a 5-minute speech is more engaging than a typical 60-minute speech, but it can be a challenge for the speaker. How to get important information to the audience in the most effective time? The ultimate goal of a 5-minute speech is to be able to use a single message to create a persuasive and engaging speech, whether it's promoting venture capital, selling a product, or educating people to make this short but powerful speech, the process is what matters first step! #### How to create a successful five minute presentation 1. Research Need to know enough about your topic and extract important concepts. 2. Chose one important concept The most important point raised by an idea, concept or key (on the topic being addressed). 3. Practice It is important for short speech rehearsal. You need to be able to be fluid, steady, and authentic to engage your listeners. Don't simply go over the material.Practice your tone, inflections, and body language in front of a mirror and record your own voice. 4. Introduce the point with flair, immediately From the very first sentence, "grab" the audience's interest. 5. Tell a story A memorable speech isn't about statistics and numbers unless it's about the point you're making. Keep the statistics section short and tell WIFM (what's in it for me) and also tell a story about how your audience can benefit from your message. #### Conclusion The topic of the speech or your language is not at an intelligible level for the audience, and it may be difficult to retain them in the first place. #### How to create beautiful and effective presentation slides? ##### Keep it simple Where do you want the audience to focus on during your presentation, like the slides or what you're saying. To make the audience focus on the slides, it needs to be concise and powerful! Most people choose to apply templates when making slideshows, but this makes people feel that it will be boring, mainly because they have seen it all. To make your slides look simple is to not use any templates. Don't be scared to start from scratch(不要害怕從頭開始) ##### Never read from your slides It's scary to read the entire slides. The human brain has a hard time processing sound and text at the same time; even if you intend to focus on listening now, you will still be distracted because you have already read the content on the slide. ![](https://i.imgur.com/Orilsdf.png) Use a simple, easy-to-read font and make that text nice and big. An important thing to remember is to put only one point on each slide. :::info *Slides like this are very common, but it's not effective.* * first point * second point * third point * ... *You are still talking about your first point but your audience is busy reading ahead.* ::: Instead, break up each point into a separate slide. ##### Use beautiful photos Photos are a great visual to use in presentation. Can cause your audience have an emotional reaction. For example: Is it feel happy, right? ![](https://i.imgur.com/5PzNBF1.jpg) One beautiful photo stretched from edge to edge is an easy way to create an effective slide. ![](https://i.imgur.com/wo9pRgw.png) The best images will add meaning and impact to what you're saying. :::warning Make sure that you are only using images that you have permission to reuse. ::: ##### Keep data simple Often you'll want to present data of some kind, it can very persuasive. But you want to make sure that it's as simple as possible. ![](https://i.imgur.com/q6IIWp8.png) This graph from the Washington Post is closer, it is clear and helps me make my argument. But it's still a little too complex, with text that's too small. ![](https://i.imgur.com/DAPIw0E.png) So they cna grabbed some data points from the previous graph and made my own. ##### Repetition When you design anything,it's really important to repeat design elements across your entire project. Unify fonts to make the whole slide more cohesive. ### How to Read a Paper #### The three-pass approach The key idea is that you should read the paper in up to three passes, instead of starting at the beginning and plowing your way to the end. ##### The first pass This pass should take about five to ten minutes and consists of the following steps: 1. Carefully read the title, abstract, and introduction 2. Read the section and sub-section headings, but ignore everything else 3. Read the conclusions 4. Glance over the references, mentally ticking off the ones you’ve already read At the end of the first pass, you should be able to answer the five Cs: 1. Category: What type of paper is this? A measurement paper? An analysis of an existing system? A description of a research prototype? 2. Context: Which other papers is it related to? Which theoretical bases were used to analyze the problem? 3. Correctness: Do the assumptions appear to be valid? 4. Contributions: What are the paper’s main contributions? 5. Clarity: Is the paper well written? ##### The second pass In the second pass, read the paper with greater care, but ignore details such as proofs. 1. Look carefully at the figures, diagrams and other illustrations in the paper. Pay special attention to graphs. Are the axes properly labeled? Are results shown with error bars, so that conclusions are statistically ignificant? 2. Remember to mark relevant unread references for further reading (this is a good way to learn more about the background of the paper). After this pass, you should be able to grasp the content of the paper. You should be able to summarize the main thrust of the paper, with supporting evidence, to someone else. ##### The third pass he key to the third pass is to attempt to virtually re-implement the paper: that is, making the same assumptions as the authors, re-create the work. This pass requires great attention to detail. You should identify and challenge every assumption in every statement. Moreover, you should think about how you yourself would present a particular idea. In particular, you should be able to pinpoint implicit assumptions, missing citations to relevant work, and potential issues with experimental or analytical techniques. ### How to Write a Report #### Essays Essays are made up of the following: * introduction: what/how you will be talking about, and what you will show. * body: introduce your main points, explain them and give supporting evidence about each point and how it relates to your essay * conclusion: conclusion you need to restate the topic discussed and summarise your main points, making the context of your argument clear. #### Reports A report is where you present your investigation and analysis of information or an issue, recommending actions and making proposals. ##### Structuring * a title page * an executive summary * a contents page * an introduction * terms of reference * procedure * findings * conclusions * recommendations * references/bibliography * appendices ### 10 Tips for Better Teamwork #### The Team Is Clear About Its Mission and Goals The team understands the goals and is committed to attaining them.
