Evaluating App Ideas Protocol When evaluating ideas, you can consider the following: Mobile: How uniquely mobile is the product experience? What makes your app more than a glorified website? Try for 2 or more of these: maps, camera, location, audio, sensors, push, real-time, etc Story: How compelling is the story around this app once completed? How clear is the value of this app to your audience? How well would your friends or peers respond to this product idea? Market: How large or unique is the market for this app? What's the size and scale of your potential user base? Does this app provide huge value to a niche group of people? Do you have a well-defined audience of people for this app? Habit: How habit-forming or addictive is this app? How frequently would an average user open and use this app? Does an average user just consume your app or do they create? Scope: How well-formed is the scope for this app? How technically challenging will it be to complete this app by the end of the program? Is a stripped-down version of this app still interesting to build? How clearly defined is the product you want to build? 1. Spotify How uniquely mobile is the product experience? It is very useful on mobile since we can listen to the song everything with our mobile. How compelling is the story around this app once completed? Spotify is able to provide free music to audiences. I think it is a great idea, since a lot of apps provide a song with its MV, and might charge money How large or unique is the market for this app? The app isn’t that unique in the market. There is actually a lot of similar apps in the market. The audience of this app is kind of broad since a lot of people like to listen to songs. I think it is able to provide value to a lot of people. How habit-forming or addictive is this app? I think on average everyone might open this app once per day. The average number of people who will consume the app How well-formed is the scope for this app? I think it will not be too difficult. I think it is very similar to the movie app that we app at the first assignment. I think the stripped-down version of this app will be fun since Spotify is not completely free. It has a limit to pass songs and ads. 2. Tiktok How uniquely mobile is the product experience? It's a fun app to use when you have time to only watch short videos. It uses the camera and location How compelling is the story around this app once completed? The idea of the app is to post videos that are only less than 3 minutes long. Friends could spend hours watching thesr short funny/informative videos. How large or unique is the market for this app? Currently the user base for the app is about 1 billion. Thus, there is a lot of potential for growth. The app is mostly designed for teenagers How habit-forming or addictive is this app? This app can be very addictive and time consuming. Sometimes, I spend more than an hour just scrolling through countless videos. You could create or just watch. How well-formed is the scope for this app? I think it won't be that difficult because we just need to allow the users to upload or record a video that is less than 3 minutes. Then show all these videos randomly on the user front page. We could make a similar idea but for pictures only and the user could only upload one picture maybe. It's not very clear yet but it can be with enough thought and brainstorming Zhuohao Tan: 1.
