# Will AI take over the world ?
Yes, it will. But probably not the way you think about it…
## Strong intelligence (is it) possible ?
The first question we have to ask is : Is it possible to have a «strong» intelligence, understanding the world properly and making its own agenda ? Specialists are very divided about the(this) matter, and it(s) raises(raising) a lot of existential(s) questions, from the essence of consciousness to ethical dilemnas. But even if a strong intelligence emerges one day, there is a very real, much more plausible and immediate potential threat(s) from the machines…
## Weak intelligence are already a threat.
### The promise of infinite production
Since the industrial revolution, technical progresses allows us to produce more by working less, and the trend continues. The age of the machine leaved in its trail the promise of a new era, with robots in service to the humans. (Robots comes from the slavic world «robota», meaning slave) But even though individual productivity skyrocketted, people are still working long weeks to earn money, even is the richest countries… Where did all the supplementary production went ?
### This is beginning to get political…
The truth is, since both World War ended, individual productivity skyrocketted, but individual salaries didn't follow the trend…
The principle of capitalism is not individual property for your personnal use, but the autorisation to possess means of production. Factories, mines, offices, hotels, are in the hands of people, so that they can make money with it. Capitalism is based on the possibility to make money with your money, a vicious snowball effect which explains why wealth inequalities are worse than ever before. The average level of life increases, of course, but nowadays 50% of world wealth is in the hands of 2% of the population, while entire countries die of hunger.
### Wasn't it about AI ?
Yes it was. It still is, let me explain.
Machines already allow us to produce more for less money. But they are in the hands of a few people. They replaced jobs, and people had to either change their jobs, or accept worse conditions or salaries to stay competitive next to machines.
But if there is a will to do so, 20 years from now, 50% of American jobs could be replaced with machines. The big problem is not replacing people with machines to do laborious tasks, but to offer those people a future. Most of those people whose jobs can disappear don't come from rich backgrounds which allowed them to get an education, and therefore they cannot get better jobs. So either they will accept worse conditions and/or salaries, either they just won't be able to survive.
So, even with a weak AI, our future can be very bad if society does'nt adapt to provide a good life for all even without employment opportunities.
## So, this is not about AI…
The danger about AI is not coming from the concept of AI itself, but from what humans will do with it. This is all about society.
If we create AI soldiers, we will have AI soldiers.
If we create AI cats, we will have AI cats.
