Motion on the Murder of George Floyd

I move, that this house:

1) *Recognises* that on the 25th of May Minneapolis time, George Floyd was killed by an MPD police officer.
2) *Recognises* that before death George Floyd stated multiple times, "I can't breathe."
3) *Acknowledges* that despite this, the culprit, Derek Chauvin, kept his knee on the victim's neck.
4) *Acknowledges* that people are innocent until proven guilty.
5) *Acknowledges* that George Floyd was not found guilty of any crime right before or after his death.
6) *Acknowledges* that this was an extrajudicial killing and a murder.
7) *Acknowledges* that many people around the world came out in protest as a result, including multiple protests in New Zealand.
8) *Acknowledges* that multiple protestors have been faced with more police violence and killings.
9) *Condemns* police violence against innocents, extrajudicial killings and police brutality of any kind.
10) *Thanks* protestors for their fight against injustice.
11) *Sends* their condolences to the bereaved families and friends of George Floyd and the protestors who have been killed.
12) *Requests* the NZ police to not send in any officers with lethal weapons in an initial response team to prevent any further deaths.
13) *Calls* for a movement away from police services and towards social services.
