# What is Linux?
**Linux is a Kernel**, this is the part of your Operating System which allows your Applications and Programs to talk to your Hardware

**Linux is often used to make Desktop operating systems**, Ubuntu would be one you have likely heard of, or maybe even Linux Mint
**Outside of Ubuntu, many other Linux Distributions exist**, made by different people with different goals, and with different technologies
**What Linux Distro you choose is up to you, because there is no best one.**
