--- Building community around the R Development Guide <!-- tags: podcast, slides description: View the slide with "Slide Mode". slideOptions: theme: white --> --- ### Welcome! <br> <!-- Put the link to the event page here so people can access all materials --> #### Event Page: #### https://contributor.r-project.org/events/collaboration-campfires Contains all event information and links to materials. --- ### About us The project is led by [Saranjeet Kaur Bhogal](https://saranjeetkaur.github.io/About-Me/) and [Heather Turner](https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/statistics/staff/academic-research/turner), and mentored by Rayya El Zein, supported by the [Digital Infrastructure Incubator at Code for Science & Society (CS&S)](https://incubator.codeforscience.org/). --- ### Collaborations Campfires As a part of this project, we are running monthly '[Collaboration Campfires](https://contributor.r-project.org/events/collaboration-campfires)' that are informal meetings with the aim to help beginners/interested people in learning how to contribute to the R project. --- ### Who supports us? Members of various R communities and the [R Contribution Working Group](https://contributor.r-project.org/working-group) and provide expert and peer support during these campfire sessions. --- ### What all have we organized so far? So far, we have successfully hosted 3 sessions since the start of this year: - Community Champions session: January 2022 - Collaboration Campfires Session 01: February 2022 (Explore R’s Bug-tracking Process) - Collaboration Campfires Session 02: March 2022 (How to Help Review R Bug Reports) --- ### Presentation at #CollabW22 Recently Heather presented a [lightning talk](https://ssi-cw.figshare.com/articles/presentation/Collaboration_Campfires_pdf/19447379) based on the concept of the 'Collaboration Campfires' at the Collaborations Workshop 2022 organized by the Software Sustainability Institute. --- ### At the Hack Day of #CollabW22 Furthermore, Heather and Saranjeet have proposed a pitch for the [Hack Day at the Collaborations Workshop 2022](https://software.ac.uk/cw20/collaborative-ideas-and-hackday-ideas), to build a Carpentries-style lesson on R's bug tracking process. This would involve converting the materials used for the campfire sessions in a more structured lesson format that can be reused for conducting such campfires in the future. The lesson(s) created will be hosted on our [webpage](https://contributor.r-project.org/) for future reference. --- ### Join Us! Register for the next campfire session using this [link](https://contributor.r-project.org/events/collaboration-campfires). We are also available on the [R-devel Slack workspace](https://contributor.r-project.org/slack).
