Experience installing a network or Linux system and with the basic concepts around these. Preferred qualifications: Experience in or a practical understanding of Linux and networking, including installation, systems administration, and troubleshooting. Knowledge and experience with hardware architecture, maintenance, and repair. Knowledge of networking, including topology and protocol concepts. Ability to learn new technical skills and domains. Ability to work as a team member and collaborate with others to help resolve challenges. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. About the job The Hardware Operations team is the data center team responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and deploying the physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. Operations engineers deploy and maintain Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure. Their duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with various stakeholders. This team offers a great introduction to the wider engineering world at Google. Google is and always will be an engineering company. We hire people with a broad set of technical skills who are ready to address some of technology's greatest challenges and make an impact on millions, if not billions, of users. Responsibilities Contribute to repair, upgrades, decoms, deployment, cabling, etc. Identify trends for machine failure, report bugs, and work with remote teams to resolve them. Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS-related challenges on our servers and resolve critical or escalated technical challenges over a significant population of affected equipment. ::: ## 履歷 Google 要的是全英文履歷，我是使用 latex 進行撰寫，一頁 A4，無大頭照、圖片。 欄位大致上有這些 - EDUCATION - INTERNSHIP / WORK EXPERIENCE - PROJECTS - LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE - CERTIFICATIONS - SKILLS AND INTERESTS ## Chat with Google Recruiter - introductory call :::success (擷取一部分) about 15-20 minutes for us to discuss: · The role, responsibilities, and hiring process in greater detail · Your relevant experience, qualifications, and career goals · Any questions you might have ::: 這東西簡單來說就是 Recruiter 協助你了解後續面試的流程；時間的選則是使用 Google Calendar 跟 Recruiter 預約聊天時間。 原先跟 Recruiter 通 mail 都是用英文，所以我以為這次就會直接使用英文進行訪談，但後來一進去會議室後我說聲 Hi~...，Recruiter 就直接用中文跟我進行面談，屬實有點受寵若驚。(Recruiter 是在上海辦公室的人，雖然有些微口音但還是聽得懂) 我這次面談大概 15 分鐘左右，一進去就先跟 Recruiter 自我介紹，然後說明接下來面試有幾 round 然後會怎麼運作，接著就看你有甚麼問題要問，不會有任何技術問題，可以很自在的跟 Recruiter 聊天。 甚至有閒聊了一下這個崗位今年大概開多少缺、有甚麼福利... ## Mail - Preparation Information :::success (擷取一部分) Interview Process (all rounds are 45 mins). - 1st Round: networking knowledge, troubleshooting - 2nd Round: hardware/Linux OS (or Unix or MS based on your knowledge) Do not use AI during the interview. Regarding language, the interviews will be conducted in English only for some interviewers are non-Mandarin speaking. ::: 其實我問問題是想知道面試官會不會是講中文的台灣人，當初看到這封回信想說應該會很大機會會是中文面試，但非常幸運，喜題兩場全英文面試 😍。 ## 面試前準備 這部分我是準備了一份自我介紹 PPT (內容除了自介，也順便整理一下曾碰過的設備、軟硬設備的技能樹)，然後去 Reddit 跟 Dcard 找類似的面試經驗文章，還有 Google Data Center 正職工作的面試經驗分享。 技術問答的部分，我是設想一些問題加上準備信件中提到的專業領域，把資料都餵給 Gemini 然後再去穩固知識；全英面試的準備是用 ChatGPT 的語音模式跟它聊天。 我在面試前 30 分鐘都很 chill，等面試官進會議室的時候我都在唱歌，親身體驗是一個挺不錯的紓壓方式推薦給大家 XD ## 1st Interview :::danger 主題 : networking knowledge, troubleshooting 面試官 : 黑人 語言 : 英文 流程 : 打招呼寒喧 >> 自我介紹 >> 問題 QA >> 任何其他的問題 >> 結束 ::: 但因為不能說面試題目，所以講個準備的大方向，以下是我面試時的問題分類，可能會根據你的經歷每個人被問的問題會不太一樣 : - OSI 七層架構 - 電腦組成元件 - 電腦有問題要怎麼做狀況排除 - Linux 指令 - 機房設備用途 - 一些在機房會遇到的問題情境模擬 ## 2nd Interview :::danger 主題 : hardware/Linux OS (or Unix or MS based on your knowledge) 面試官 : 白人 語言 : 英文 流程 : 打招呼寒喧 >> 自我介紹 >> 問題 QA >> 任何其他的問題 >> 結束 ::: - Linux 指令 - TCP/IP - OSI 7 層 - 光纖 - 網路設備相關常識 - 簡單來講就是計算機網路跟計算機概論會上到的東西 喔對，我有聽到一種說法是自我介紹跟後面的其他問題是不會被評分的，只有中間的 QA 是會被紀錄在面試官的評分文件中，但我沒有去查更多資料，這邊只是稍微提一下。 ## 感謝信 某天一早上在床上醒來就看到手機跳出一封信件，整天心情都不好了呢 😍 :::warning (擷取一部分) After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that we will not be moving forward with your application at this time. ::: ## Chat with Google Recruiter - 被刷掉後的聊天 收到感謝信後我又跟 Recruiter 約了一次聊天，主要是想去了解我到底哪一方面出了問題，還有今年這個職缺的相關問題。 Recruiter 給了一些面試官給我的回饋 - 英文溝通能力要再加強 - 對於 troubleshooting 都回答得挺不錯 - 沒有光纖操作經驗 (這部分我當初有直接跟面試官說) - 對於 OS booting 流程不夠了解 順便問了一下 Recruiter 今年投遞這個實習生職缺的人多嗎，接果聽起來是意外的多，但軟體職位的人還是比較多。 ## 心得 簡單一句話總結 : 菜就多練 其實當初投 Google 職缺一直不是我大學生涯規劃的一部分，因為想說我沒那麼愛寫 code，Leetcode 根本沒刷過多少題，後來發現 data center 的面試不用考寫 code 就直接開始寫履歷了。 後來在準備面試其實都很 chill，因為怎麼找資料都找不到相關資訊，所以就沒有太認真準備哈哈哈哈哈。面試完的心得是很好玩，這算是我人生中第二、三次全英文面試，問的都是技術問題所以問題會的有八成以上，但就是不知道面試官能不能懂我的英文表達在說甚麼。 收到感謝信後跟 Recruiter 聊天後讓我意識到，這個職缺並沒有我想像中那麼容易，全台灣其實有很多很多人，甚至有外國人也在應徵這個職位，我如果沒有將面試官的問題 100% 回答正確出來，那被刷掉好像也是應該的。**人外有人天外有天、菜就多練。**(BTW，Recruiter 真的跟網路上說的一樣人很好，推薦大家有任何問題都可以寫信問問，像是可以怎麼準備、或者是被刷掉的原因之類的。) 最後的結果雖然不盡如人意，但也讓我知道我離這個職缺還有哪些地方可以在更加努力，讓我有更多動力去學習專業的知識。期望未來有一天能拿到 Google 的 Offer !!!! :::success 如果看到我的心得文的人，剛好身邊有可以鍛鍊相關技能的職缺歡迎告訴我 XD，網路上真的好難找到可以進機房工作的 intern 職缺 QWQ。 有任何問題歡迎 email 到 hackmd@sunz.tw 想要投這個實習職位也非常歡迎跟我聊聊 如果這篇文對你有幫助，歡迎幫我按愛心❤️ :::
