# Clarion2 Design Doc
## Overview
Clarion as a map has been in active rotation since late 2016, and has not been as actively maintained as more popular maps like cog1 during that time. This, alongside some more fundemental design flaws in its space allocation and layout, has resulted in it being one of the more complained about maps currently in rotatation.
This PR seeks to address these issues by designing an entirely new map (Creatively named clarion2) with the intent to replace clarion in active rotation. This allows for changes to its design that would be beyond the scope of any one map edit PR.
## Goals
* Provide larger and more secluded maintenance spaces, including random rooms.
* Adjust space allocation to allow for more room in busy areas such as medbay, at the cost of allocating less room towards infrequently visited areas such as crew bunks and solar power substations.
* Design for modern content and standards, meaning that allowing for an appropriate amount of space to be accommodated to areas such as the ranch and nuclear reactor while removing deprecated zones such as pathology.
## Non Goals
* To change the population niche that the map fills. Though more traffic-minded design may allow it to accomodate higher player counts, clarion2 is still designed with up to 60 players in mind.
* To significantly change the size of the map. Clarion2 occupies approximately the same square area as the original clarion.
* To change the identity of the map. Clarion2 will remain a spaceship themed map, and will retain the same core game mechanics, such as the nuclear reactor.
## Design
Currently a WIP. Feedback and ideas welcome, all things subject to potential change.
