# Guide to Delta Plus Size Policies
**Delta Flight 1(888)-657–3644 Plus Size | Seat Upgrade**
If you're a plus-size traveler considering traveling with Delta, here's everything you need to know about its seat sizes, customer size policy, and ways to support your health, safety, and comfort while flying.
## A Guide to Delta's Customer Size Policy
Under Delta's “additional seat and personal comfort policy” (their only policy that explains the rights and consequences of using their airline as a plus-size person), obese passengers can purchase an “additional seat” for their personal comfort during trip. Delta does not require passengers who need a seat belt extender or who cannot lower the armrest to purchase an additional seat. If a passenger occupies an ill-defined “too much space,” they may be asked to move or take a later flight.
Delta's only policy aimed at plus-size travelers is for customers to purchase a second seat at full price when booking their fare. Travelers should note the following disclaimer in their policy: "Delta has the right to charge for all seats occupied."
This policy lacks empathy, especially compared to Southwest's customer size policy, which prioritizes the comfort and safety of all travelers by offering a complimentary seat to people who need extra space.
### Why Delta needs a size customer policy
As a dedicated plus-size travel blogger and advocate for safe, comfortable, and inclusive travel for all, I've had many experiences flying with different airlines.
It is true that the entire air transport industry – with few exceptions – lacks adequate policies for larger passengers. Delta Airlines, a company that prides itself on customer service, has missed this opportunity to ensure reasonable comfort and safety for all of its passengers, regardless of size.
While the world outside the windows of a Delta flight is diverse and expansive, it seems the philosophy inside the plane cabin remains the same for everyone. Delta's inability to accommodate full-size passengers also impacts the comfort and travel experience of smaller passengers seated nearby.
### Seat sizes on Delta airplanes
Here's what you can expect as a plus-size person in each of Delta's seat sizes:
**Economy Class Seats on Delta**
On Delta, the standard seat width in Economy typically ranges from 17 to 18.5 inches, depending on the plane.
Seat pitch (the distance between a point on your seat and the same point on the seat in front of you) ranges from 30 to 33 inches. At Delta this is tight, but generally comparable to other airlines in the industry.
### Delta Comfort+ seats for full-size passengers
Economy Plus, or Comfort+ as it's known at Delta, has limited usefulness in increasing comfort for older travelers.
Because? Well, as a plus-size traveler, I can attest that the seats do NOT offer extra width, just a little more legroom. For a round, stocky or low body combined with wide seats, economy seats and Delta Comfort+ seats are essentially the same.
In this higher class you will find a seat between 17 and 18.5 inches. However, the pitch increases to between 34 and 36 inches. For obese travelers, this can provide some comfort in the form of more room to move in the seat and freedom to move your legs without having to get up and walk down the aisle. (Researchers know that movement is essential during long flights, and older travelers need and deserve equal or greater freedom to move our bodies during flights.)
#### Delta First Class Seats for Plus Size Passengers
If you're a plus size, an upgrade to first class on a Delta flight may be the only way to ensure you don't get kicked off your flight. Since the seats in this premium cabin are much wider (averaging between 21 and 21.5 inches) and typically offer a console between the seats, larger travelers can rest assured they won't encroach on another seat.
In Delta first class, seat pitch can range from 37 to 40 inches, depending on the type of aircraft. Some first-class seats for long-distance travel come with additional features, such as the ability to recline completely, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable trip.
